X-Men Star Liev Schreiber Breaks Silence on Daughter Kai Coming Out as Trans: ‘She’s a Fighter’

For the first time, Liev Schreiber openly discussed his 16-year-old daughter Kai identifying as transgender. In a heartfelt talk, the Ray Donovan actor expressed his backing of her choice, sharing that she had always exhibited a feminine side, which meant she didn’t need to come out to him or actress Naomi Watts, his partner, as it was already apparent.

Kai has consistently remained true to themselves,” Schreiber shared with Variety. “The most impactful instance was when they asked us to use different pronouns. To be clear, this shift didn’t seem significant to me, mainly because Kai had exhibited such a strong feminine identity for such a long time.

Kai, who recently walked the runway for Valentino and was featured in a campaign for their luxury fashion line, is set to attend the Ali Forney Center’s A Place at the Table Gala this coming Friday in New York City. This center offers aid to homeless LGBTQ youth, providing assistance to over 2,200 young individuals through its drop-in centers and housing programs. Accompanying Kai will be her father and his spouse, Taylor Neisen, at the event.

Even though Kai doesn’t experience the same hardships as many center residents, Schreiber underscored the significance of supporting the community. He explained, “This isn’t just about standing for the transgender community; it’s a community of individuals who lack substantial resources, who aren’t shielded or nurtured by their families. Some of them are merely making it through.

When Kai entered the public spotlight, her father commended her courage, likening her to a “warrior.” Moreover, he emphasized the importance of her embracing her individuality with pride, rather than being intimidated by public scrutiny.

Currently in his acting career, Liev Schreiber can be remembered from his role as J.J. Kellogg in the 2023 film Asteroid City. Upcoming, he’ll appear in Caught Stealing, a crime thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky. This movie also features Austin Butler, Matt Smith, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Bad Bunny. It is set to premiere in theaters on August 29.
