Drew McIntyre, a professional wrestler known for his work in WWE, will appear in the upcoming reboot of the film *Highlander*. He’s been cast as Angus MacLeod, the brother of Connor MacLeod, who will be played by Henry Cavill, according to *Deadline*.
Expanding the Clan MacLeod
Adding Drew McIntyre, a Scottish wrestler who incorporates a sword into his performances, introduces a family dynamic to the story, building on the clan aspect of the original 1986 *Highlander* film. Introducing Angus MacLeod as Connor’s brother could add emotional weight and expand the mythology of the series.
The original 1986 film featured Angus MacLeod as a relative of Clan Chief Conor MacLeod, portrayed by James Cosmo, who was killed by Kurgan. This has led to speculation that the upcoming reboot might feature a rivalry between Drew McIntyre and Dave Bautista!

Star-Studded Cast
As a huge cinema fan, I’m really excited about the cast for this film! Henry Cavill is taking on the role of Connor MacLeod, and it’s fantastic to see Russell Crowe as Ramirez. Plus, they’ve got Dave Bautista – who I remember from WWE – playing the villain, Kurgan. They’ve also added some fresh faces like Marisa Abela in a new key role as another immortal, alongside Karen Gillan as Connor’s wife, Heather, and the always impressive Djimon Hounsou and Max Zhang. It’s a seriously strong lineup!
Directed by Chad Stahelski, the new film aims to capture the grand scope of the first movie while also drawing inspiration from the classic Adrian Paul television show.

Cavill’s Injury Delays Production
The upcoming *Highlander* movie has paused production after Henry Cavill injured his ankle during training and shared photos of the injury online. This means filming won’t begin until early 2026.
Henry Cavill has experienced on-set injuries before, including a hamstring injury during the filming of *The Witcher* Season 2 in 2021. Despite this recent setback, he’s made it clear that *Highlander* is still a top priority and a project he’s very enthusiastic about.

Franchise Legacy
United Artists, under Amazon MGM Studios, holds the full rights to the Highlander franchise.
Besides the movie remake, there are ideas for expanding the story with spinoffs, and a new TV show is one possibility.
The 1986 movie, featuring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, gained a dedicated following and led to several follow-up films and a popular television series starring Adrian Paul.
No release date has been set for the new film.
