As a die-hard Marvel fan, I was absolutely thrilled when I stumbled upon Austin Theory‘s behind-the-scenes account of his time as an extra in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film, already a fan favorite for its unique blend of action, humor, and heart, has only grown more intriguing with these fascinating stories that continue to surface.
2017 saw the release of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ a film that resonated strongly with audiences. Critics particularly appreciated Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker as young and relatable. The blend of comedy, action, and emotional scenes gave the movie a unique, modern twist compared to previous Spider-Man movies.
The reason it’s still a topic of conversation today is that fresh insights into its making continue to captivate us. Lately, WWE star Austin Theory disclosed some intriguing facts about his time as an extra on the set.
Prior to his WWE career gaining momentum, Austin Theory was employed as an extra in Atlanta-filmed movies, such as “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. In the mid-credits scene, he portrayed a prison inmate, during which Adrian Toomes (played by Michael Keaton) conversed with Mac Gargan (Michael Mando).
Theory shared that the scene was filmed in a real prison with actual inmates locked up nearby!
That was a crazy day, they were actually in the Jackson prison in Georgia. We went down there. We put on prisoner outfits and everything, and they said, ‘Hey, make sure when we tell you guys to line up and you’re walking to not touch the bars, do not encourage the inmates, because the inmates were yelling at us.’
In simpler terms, They were truly wild, indeed. This was a genuine experience. Later on, we split up, each going different ways. For instance, one character is walking down the hallway, while another is moving in a different direction. Then there’s a scene featuring Michael Keaton. In this scene, you can briefly see me pass by. Some viewers have even spotted it online. It’s possible that they might bring my character back to the Marvel Universe.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, this isn’t exactly new information. Back when Spider-Man: Homecoming hit the screens, Michael Mando spilled the beans about it. He revealed that his end-credits scene was actually filmed amidst a real prison riot! Can you believe it? The chaos from all the shouting made it impossible to hear anything clearly, so they had to redo all the dialogue later using voiceovers. Crazy, huh?
This is undeniably one of the most captivating backstage tales we’ve encountered! Perhaps we’ll witness Austin Theory making a bigger comeback within the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in time.
