‘Write It Into Existence’: Channing Tatum Has THIS To Say About Reviving Gambit Role In MCU

As a dedicated fan who has followed Channing Tatum‘s journey with Gambit for over a decade, I can confidently say that his portrayal of the character in Deadpool & Wolverine was nothing short of phenomenal. The actor’s long-standing desire to play Gambit is truly commendable, and it’s heartening to see him expressing his interest in reprising the role for a solo film.

In the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Deadpool and Wolverine, Channing Tatum stepped into the limelight by playing the character Gambit. For years, Tatum had been discussing the role with producers, but it wasn’t until this film that he got to bring his superhero persona to life. His impressive performance has left fans wondering if they’ll get to see a standalone Gambit film featuring Channing Tatum in the title role.

Channing Tatum’s association with the Gambit character spans over a decade. He was initially offered the part in 2009, but due to his packed schedule, it ended up going to Taylor Kitsch. However, he eventually got the chance to play the character in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine movie, earning widespread praise. Many viewers appreciated Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit, making him a favorite among fans.

In an interview with Variety, the actor was asked if he was discussing the possibility of a standalone movie with producers. Excitingly, Channing Tatum shared that he is eager to bring back the character again, delighting fans everywhere.

“I sincerely hope that happens. Let’s see if fate wills it so. Go ahead and make it happen, my friend. I certainly have expressed my desire for this before, and I’ve been wishing for it over the last decade. Now, it’s up to Bob Iger and Kevin Feige to bring it to life. I can only cross my fingers and pray.” (Tatum stated.)

Channing Tatum had almost secured his standalone Gambit film years ago. In 2014, it was announced that he would star in the solo Gambit movie by Fox, but unfortunately, the venture didn’t materialize. It is worth mentioning that Fox faced difficulties with their superhero films, as movies like X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants weren’t well-received. These failures reduced the likelihood of a standalone Gambit production even more.

Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019 marked the end of years-long attempts to produce Gambit films. Now, with Gambit’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the possibility of a standalone Gambit project depends on Marvel Studios. However, given their current slate of superhero projects, it appears unlikely that such a film will be made soon.

It remains uncertain if Channing Tatum’s long-term attempts at a standalone Gambit film will ultimately bear fruit. However, fans continue to express enthusiasm for Tatum as the lead in his own Gambit project. For now, audiences can catch Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit in the ongoing Deadpool & Wolverine movies, currently playing in theaters.
