- CME Group is launching XRP futures on May 19. Get ready for the ride!
- Micro and large XRP contracts join CME’s growing list of crypto offerings. Who knew?
Oh, so now CME Group is getting into the XRP game? On May 19, they’re launching XRP futures contracts. Like, great. As if we needed more things to stress about. But, hey, it’s a sign that XRP, and its fancy blockchain, XRPL, are actually a big deal now. And, of course, traditional financial institutions are *totally* on board with crypto—because they always *get* it, right? 🙄
Micro and Large XRP Contracts to Roll Out at CME. Yippee!
Okay, so here’s the deal: CME’s adding two types of XRP futures contracts. One’s for 2,500 XRP, the other for 50,000 XRP. Just in case you can’t decide if you want to dabble in micro or go all-in on the big boy contract. They’re cash-settled, just like their Bitcoin and Ether futures, because why wouldn’t they be? Oh, and don’t forget about Solana (SOL) futures too. Like, who knew the crypto world had *so many* futures contracts. So many. 🙃
Apparently, blockchain tech is *still* moving forward, which is why regular financial folks are slowly waking up to the idea of digital assets. Giovanni Vicioso, the Global Head of Crypto Products at CME Group (he’s got a title that sounds important, right?), said that XRP futures are here to help with that ‘growing need for regulated risk management.’ Uh-huh. Because that’s exactly what we needed—more ways to manage risk in a super volatile market.
But hold on! CME’s crypto platform is doing great, with a 141% annual growth rate. That’s right, 141%! So much for that whole “crypto’s dead” thing, huh? In Q1, there were 198,000 contracts traded per day—$11.3 billion worth. And just to make it all sound more impressive, the open interest reached 251,000 contracts worth a whopping $21.8 billion. Wow, so many zeros, it’s giving me a headache. 📈
But wait, there’s more! Robinhood—yes, that Robinhood—is getting in on the action too. Soon, retail users will be able to trade CME Group’s XRP futures. You know, because we all need to get our hands on futures contracts on our phones while we’re waiting for our coffee. I mean, it’s not like retail investors ever get in over their heads, right? JB Mackenzie over at Robinhood says this move is all about “democratizing” futures trading. It’s just… a lot to process. 😬
XRP Futures: The Beginning of Something… Interesting?
Meanwhile, XRP’s doing just fine in other areas too. The Teucrium 2x Daily Long XRP ETF (XXRP)—yeah, that’s a mouthful—has already raked in $35 million in assets. Big surprise. This is *definitely* what we needed: more ways to deal with XRP in the financial world. Sal Gilbertie at Teucrium is obviously thrilled. Who wouldn’t be with $35 million in your pocket?
And guess what? Coinbase is getting into the XRP futures game too. Because of course they are. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is keeping an eye on all this (shocking), and the announcement was made on April 21st. But don’t worry, it’s all regulated. *Phew*—thank goodness for regulations. 🤦♂️
So yeah, all these big exchanges and platforms are teaming up to make XRP a “mainstream” thing. Who knew? XRP futures are going to give investors new ways to “participate” in the crypto world. Whatever that means. Hopefully, it all works out… or doesn’t. Either way, we’ll have a front-row seat. 🎟️
