‘Would Be A Shame To…’: Yellowstone’s Cole Hauser Teases Future Of The Dutton Universe

As a dedicated follower of Yellowstone and someone who has invested countless hours into this gripping series, I must admit that I share Cole Hauser‘s sentiment about the potential for more stories within the universe of this remarkable show. Having witnessed the evolution of Rip Wheeler’s character over the past five seasons, it feels like unfinished business to simply close the book on such a rich and complex world.

As a dedicated follower, I must say that the Starz series Yellowstone wrapped up after its fifth and final season, but the talented Cole Hauser, who brought Rip Wheeler to life in this Western drama, believes there’s still untapped potential within this universe. Given Kevin Costner’s unexpected departure from the show halfway through season 5, the creators had to devise a narrative to provide some sense of closure.

Even though John Dutton’s storyline has reached its conclusion, Hauser feels it would be unfortunate if the entire universe of the show ended, given its boundless potential. In an interview with PEOPLE, he expressed his hopes for the series’ continued journey.

Hauser acknowledged that even though he was merely a temporary hire, it would be unfortunate to halt something exceptional. He also pointed out that the statistics clearly demonstrate America’s preference, and he himself has been part of this great endeavor. According to him, the show creator Taylor Sheridan aimed to portray an uncompromising, truthful, devoted American man with strong principles. “I think we have successfully achieved this collaboration,” he concluded.

After Costner’s departure in the latter part of season 5, the spotlight shifted to Hauser’s character, with his role within the Dutton family ranch becoming more prominent. Despite his commitments to his wife Beth (Kelly Reilly) and their surrogate son Carter (Finn Little), he managed to juggle these responsibilities, resulting in a greater focus on Hauser’s character following Costner’s exit.

Previously, during an interview with PEOPLE, the actor spoke about his anticipation for the final episodes of season 5, set to air on November 10. He shared, “I truly hope they enjoy it.” He also hinted, “Perhaps there will be more, perhaps they’re mistaken. But if this is the end, then what a thrilling journey it has been!” He further suggested that as long as Sheridan continues writing, he would be open to rejoining the series.

Back in April, I found myself reminiscing about our beloved series as I prepared to rejoin the cast for its grand finale. It’s astonishing to think about the impact this show has had on so many hearts. As I reflected on those feelings then, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement at the prospect of diving back into the world we created together.

Yellowstone, all seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
