When Marvel Studios announced director Jake Schreier for the upcoming X-Men reboot, there was much excitement. Given his successful portrayal of the dysfunctional family dynamics within the future New Avengers in “Thunderbolts,” many believe he is perfectly suited to introduce Marvel’s troubled mutants into the MCU. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via Deadline), Schreier confirmed that he is indeed working on the X-Men project. Here’s what he shared:
I’m not at liberty to discuss details, but we have indeed embarked on a project related to the X-Men, which undeniably brings a great deal of enthusiasm.
Excitedly speaking as a die-hard fan here, it’s thrilling to learn that the gears are now in motion! In a recent chat with Playlist, Schreier hinted at the project being “an incredible opportunity” with intriguing characters grappling with identity and place in the world. Such themes promise to deliver complex and engaging material. Given the early stages of development, it’s reasonable to expect this X-Men relaunch to be among the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe movies following Avengers: Secret Wars.
It seems likely that the upcoming X-Men reboot, possibly titled Uncanny X-Men, will be set in a timeline reset after Secret Wars, as described by Kevin Feige. If it’s released in 2028, this would mark nine years since the last X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix. This length of time might allow fans to forget about that film and look forward to the concept again. There’s speculation that this reboot will feature younger versions of Professor Xavier’s students, such as Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Beast, and others. For fans who love Marvel mutants, the arrival of 2028 can’t come soon enough.
