Woman Of The Hour TRAILER: Anna Kendrick Brings To Life Chilling True Story Of THIS Serial Killer From 70s

As a lifestyle expert with a keen interest in true crime narratives, I must admit that Anna Kendrick‘s directorial debut, Woman of The Hour, based on the chilling tale of serial killer Rodney Alcala, has piqued my curiosity. Having grown up in the 70s myself, the era of The Dating Game and the terror it hid beneath its cheery facade is a stark reminder of the shadows that lurk within even the most seemingly innocent of places.

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of death.

Excitedly speaking about Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, “Woman of the Hour,” a gripping tale inspired by the real-life crimes of 70s serial killer Rodney Alcala and his chilling murder spree. This captivating production is set to grace Netflix screens shortly! The rights for this intriguing piece were obtained following its initial screening at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023. Unfortunately, it won’t be accessible globally, but only in select regions – much like “May December.”

The brief trailer merely hints at the extensive and chilling crimes committed by Alcala between 1968 and 1979, which instilled widespread fear during the 1970s. Kendrick portrays Cheryl Bradshaw, a contestant on the popular 1970s TV dating show The Dating Game, where Alcala was among the bachelors.

Even though he was a convicted murderer and child predator at the time, he appeared on the show due to insufficient background checks. He was offered a date with Bradshaw, but she declined because of strange feelings towards him. It wasn’t until later that it was revealed she narrowly avoided a terrible fate by going to her tennis lesson instead.

Alcala is often called “The Dating Game Killer” due to the revelation of his crimes. Over a span of two years, he was responsible for taking five lives, although the exact number of victims remains uncertain, potentially reaching up to 130, involving both murder and sexual assault cases.

I’m delighted to share that in this movie version of the story, it’s me, Daniel Zovatto, who takes on the role of Acala. Alongside me, you’ll find Kathryn Gallagher, Nicolette Robinson, Kelley Jakle, Autumn Best, Pete Holmes, and the exceptionally talented Tony Hale gracing the screen in their respective supporting roles.

Since its debut at the Toronto Film Festival, the movie has garnered exceptional feedback. As of now, there’s no announced release date, but the streaming service hints that viewers won’t have to wait much longer to watch it from home.
