The potential merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery is being discussed as a deal Netflix failed to make. Interestingly, the New York Post reports that lawmakers were surprised to find a basket of tampons in a men’s restroom during a tour of Netflix’s offices.
According to a New York Post report, Netflix recently hosted a group of lawmakers in an attempt to address Republican worries about potential liberal bias in its programming.
The article reports that Missouri Representative Jason Smith, who leads the House Ways and Means Committee, was among those present and reportedly felt upset by something he witnessed in the men’s restroom.

How this fits into Netflix backing out of the WBD fight
According to the New York Post, this event likely fueled existing political resistance to Netflix’s plans, though it wasn’t the sole cause.
Netflix has publicly stated that it didn’t pursue a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery because of pricing and a desire to maintain financial responsibility, rather than being outbid by Paramount’s higher offer.

Culture signals, corporate optics, and why Republicans care
According to the New York Post, some companies are now providing menstrual products in men’s restrooms to be more inclusive of transgender and nonbinary workers. However, many conservatives see this as a form of pushing a particular viewpoint, and they believe similar choices are being made in what Netflix streams.
“This is 2026, not 2020,” said one GOP staffer to the site. “What were they thinking?”

Paramount’s wins WBD bid
It’s interesting that Netflix ended its agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery just hours after Netflix’s CEO, Ted Sarandos, had a trip to Washington D.C.
Paramount now sits in the driver’s seat on WBD.
If regulators and Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders agree, Paramount will successfully acquire a major Hollywood studio, gaining access to a vast collection of content and well-known brands – something Netflix wasn’t able to achieve.
We’ve already been told that Paramount plans on going big.
