WisdomTree Europe Launches XRP Exchange-Traded Product (ETP)

As a seasoned researcher with years of experience in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrencies and financial products, I find WisdomTree’s move into the XRP market intriguing. Having closely followed the regulatory landscape in both the US and Europe, I am well aware that the paths these regions take are not always parallel. The approval of a Bitcoin or Ethereum ETF in one region does not guarantee the same for the other.

WisdomTree’s European sector has recently introduced an Exchange Traded Product (ETP) linked to XRP. At the moment, this financial instrument can be traded in four European Union member states, causing a minor increase in XRP’s value.

Exchanged-Traded Products (ETPs) serve as an alternative income source for issuers when Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) aren’t approved, but it doesn’t mean that Europe will automatically grant approval just because the U.S. does so.

WisdomTree’s XRP ETP

In simple terms, the U.S-based Bitcoin ETF provider, WisdomTree, disclosed that its European division will launch a trading product linked to Ripple (XRP). This innovative product is now accessible in countries like Germany, Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands. Unlike other issuers who have applied for an XRP ETF, WisdomTree is approaching this differently.

The WisdomTree Physical Ripple Exchange Traded Product (ETP) provides a straightforward, secure, and affordable method for investors to access XRP, one of the leading cryptocurrencies by market value. Completely backed by XRP, XRPW is the most budget-friendly XRP ETP available in Europe, offering immediate exposure to the actual spot price.

The likelihood of an official XRP Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) is increasing due to the ongoing bull market, and Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, views it as “unavoidable.” However, as of now, it has not been realized. ETPs (Exchange-Traded Products) enable issuers to cater to some customer demands. BitWise, a company that has also filed for an XRP ETF in the U.S., recently obtained a European ETP issuer to enter the same market.

WisdomTree, however, is no stranger to this market strategy. In May this year, it won approval to offer ETPs based on Bitcoin and Ethereum to British investors.

Although neither of these assets have been fully approved by the UK for an ETF, WisdomTree has managed to secure market entry nonetheless. A mere fraction of the XRP market could potentially be profitable, as the asset’s value saw a significant increase today.

The strategy page of WisdomTree Europe doesn’t provide details about any additional steps following full approval. Just because the SEC in the U.S. might approve an XRP ETF under its new leadership, it doesn’t automatically mean that WisdomTree Europe will reap benefits. For the time being, Exchange-Traded Products (ETPs) based on XRP will be sufficient for this market.
