“I am proud to announce that the $TRUMP Meme Coin has aligned with @WorldLibertyFi,” trumpeted Eric on June 6 via his favorite platform—X (formerly Twitter), where punctuation and credibility go to die.

“We’re proud to announce that World Liberty Financial plans to acquire a substantial position in $TRUMP for their Long-Term Treasury,” proudly declared the scion with all the enthusiasm of a man announcing a new line of scented candles. Almost immediately after this pronouncement, the token’s value shot up by modest 6.40%—because that’s how these things work—before mildly retracing to a humble $10.10, figures from CoinMarketCap tell us. Currently, it’s the 45th largest crypto, worth a cool $2.03 billion, which, considering the hype, is roughly what one would expect.

Yet, as with all things piggybacking on the Trump name, cynics and skeptics were quick to point out that the news lacked proper “pumping power.” Crypto commentator Pluid, ever the voice of reason, stated on June 6: “The coin hasn’t pumped on this news—so that’s not a good sign at all,” as if indexes and percentages can be read like tea leaves.

It’s worth noting that mere weeks earlier, the top 220 holders of Trump’s memecoin gathered at the President’s Virginia golf course—to eat, drink, and presumably plot how to get richer faster than the price of their pet project. Classic American capitalism.

Eric Trump: memecoin wallets are so last century

Meanwhile, the Trump camp continued to dismiss the much-hyped “Official Trump Wallet,” launched amid public fuss on June 3. “Although their meme wallet isn’t moving forward,” declared Eric, “they remain focused on building the most exciting MEME on earth—$Trump,” all the while giving the impression that “word of approval” from the Trumps is as elusive as a snow leopard in a snowstorm.

The controversy ignited when Magic Eden and the so-called “Official Trump” team announced a partnership for the “$TRUMP Wallet,” only to be immediately disavowed by Eric Trump—who clearly doesn’t want any “unauthorized” use of his name. Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. cheerfully announced that “our official wallet” is imminent, revealing that family cohesion on crypto remains as fragile as a house of cards painted with glitter.
