As a seasoned gamer and a long-time Tolkien enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as the second season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ approaches. My first encounter with Middle Earth was through the pages of the books, where every word felt like a journey into an enchanting world. However, the show’s debut left me somewhat underwhelmed, despite my initial excitement.

Although the initial response to its premiere in 2022 was somewhat divided, it’s disappointing given the significant investment Amazon made in the series. Despite initial high anticipation, issues arose with the release of early promotional materials.’
The audience found it difficult to find a positive aspect in the show, as it faced criticism on various fronts. For instance, the costumes seemed cheap, the character of Galadriel was questionable, and many noticed inconsistencies with the original material. One of the points that drew significant criticism was the potential enemies-to-lovers storyline hinted between Galadriel and Halbrand.
In my perspective as a devoted fan, the portrayal of Galadriel in this new adaptation deviated significantly from her character in previous adaptations and literature. She was depicted as impulsive, reckless, and eager for violence, which contrasts sharply with her dignified and maternal image in ‘The Lord of the Rings.’
In the second season, the marketing strategy emphasizes a possible romantic connection between Halbrand, who’s now Sauron, and Galadriel. However, the creators have hinted that future episodes will delve deeper into the villainous character of Annatar as he attempts to manipulate Celebrimbor into serving his purposes.
In the upcoming season, showrunners have highlighted that the relationship between Sauron and Galadriel will play a significant role. It appears that Sauron has an intense fixation on Galadriel, the Elven Lady.
For quite a while now, I’ve been eagerly anticipating where this story will lead, and boy, was it gratifying to see these characters reunited in Season 2!
In the latest installments, Galadriel and Sauron forge an exceptional bond, one they’ve never known before, which proves to be a haunting presence for them both. This connection transcends romantic relationships, according to Charlie Vickers, who played Halbrand.
Their connection runs far deeper than anything surface level.
Now some fans like the idea of the show venturing in that direction while some abhor the idea:

Initially, I disliked The Rings of Power, but as the seasons progressed, it grew on me somewhat, despite its numerous flaws. However, the hinted romance between Sauron and Galadriel in season 2 is a complete turn-off for me. To put it simply, Galadriel wouldn’t be interested.

It would have been advantageous to promote the show more through platforms like BookTok and other relevant channels. Interestingly, Amazon’s The Rings of Power is now emphasizing this approach, as seen with their marketing strategies featuring Sauron and Galadriel.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel frustrated when it comes to the lore of Middle-earth. If Celebron were to perish, he’d undoubtedly return to Aman like Glorfindel and others. However, the omission of Galadriel’s family, her daughter and husband, for the sake of a romantic narrative between Galadriel and Sauron feels a tad bothersome to me. It’s not about shipping or romance per se, but rather the balance and authenticity that could be brought by including these familial relationships in the story.

A somewhat deceptive headline for an article accurately captures the narrative’s essence, and instead of implying a romantic or loving bond between Sauron and Galadriel, it describes their connection as kinship. This relationship is broken the instant Sauron reveals his true identity, which I find to be an accurate portrayal. I concur with this interpretation.

It’s puzzling to me how people claim that Charlie completely grasps Sauron, only to assert he’s misinformed or even dishonest when he says there was no romantic relationship between Sauron and Galadriel.
