Will The One Ring Be Forged on THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2?

As a die-hard fan of Middle Earth’s lore and a seasoned connoisseur of all things Tolkien, I can confidently say that we are in for quite a spectacle during the second season of The Rings of Power! If my hobbitish instincts serve me right, it seems that Sauron’s masterful journey to crafting the One Ring will be the pièce de résistance of the upcoming season.

In “The Rings of Power,” Lord Celembrimbor is planning on doing something he previously vowed against. He’s intending to collaborate in creating nine rings intended for men. Annatar, a deceptive figure, exploited the elven smith’s pride, vanity, and remorse to convince Eregion’s ruler to carry out the Dark Lord’s commands. Before this act, Sauron had an up-close look at what is required to create a ring that draws its wearer into the hidden realm. As Annatar’s time runs short, we may wonder if Sauron will forge the One Ring during the second season of the series.

Due to Celebrimbor’s decision not to craft rings for men who were easily swayed, Annatar took it upon himself, along with other blacksmiths of Eregion, to create the rings instead. This move didn’t just tempt Celebrimbor; it also provided Sauron with an opportunity to learn through trial and error. Meanwhile, Mirdania was crafting a ring that contained more mithral than its predecessors.

When Mirdania donned it, she disappeared from view and found herself in a location Frodo would later become intimately acquainted with. This realm was like the one she knew, yet it was enveloped in fog and darkness. In this hidden world, she beheld a towering figure of flame, whose eyes were cold and unending, and who exuded an air of death.

Fans of The Lord of the Rings are familiar with the realm as the “wraith-world,” as Sauron’s One Ring attracts the Nazgul into this otherworldly dimension. This imperfect ring could be the most significant flaw in Middle-earth, for it may have given Sauron the knowledge he required to create his ultimate ring all by himself in Mordor.

In this episode, Sauron gained crucial insights on manipulating the rings for his benefit. King Durin’s ring has altered him significantly, making him more cold-hearted, quick-tempered, and suddenly covetous. His son expresses these changes, describing him as “colder, quicker to anger” and all of a sudden greedy. Sauron claims that the dwarf rings were crafted under a veil of deceit. There’s reason to question whether he’s telling the truth about this cause and effect, but one thing is certain: Sauron excels at deception by twisting reality. Moreover, he was truthful when he told Celebrimbor that “these are matters of spirit as much as craft.

The reign of the Dark Overlord in Eregion is yielding significant results. With each new creation of rings, their bearers become increasingly susceptible to corruption. This contrasts with established lore but remains functional within our narrative context. We’re familiar with how subsequent generations of rings function (or fail) for Sauron from “The Lord of the Rings,” and soon nine mortal men who were destined to perish will wear rings that Celebrimbor vowed never to craft in “The Rings of Power.” These rings will link the men to the hidden realm that Mirandia once visited.

After crafting the rings of power, Sauron’s final task is to forge the One Ring that would rule over them, gather them and unite them under his control in the shadows. With Celebrimbor’s collaboration nearly complete, it seems likely that Sauron will accomplish his life’s mission by the end of season two.

Fortunately, when Celebrimbor creates the rings, it appears as though he forgets another lesson learned in Eregion. He even shared with Mirdania that the process of crafting these rings had a significant impact on Celebrimbor, making him seem less powerful. Just as the One Ring weakens Sauron whenever he forges it, so too does it diminish his strength.
