As a dedicated fan who has followed Sophie Turner‘s journey from a naive Sansa Stark to a wise Queen in the North, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation whenever her name is mentioned. The character’s growth mirrored Turner’s own transformation from a young actress to a seasoned professional, making their bond even more special.
Sophie Turner, well-known for her portrayal of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, initially faced disdain from viewers but garnered fan appreciation as the series unfolded. The finale saw Sansa ascending to the position of Queen in the North, causing great excitement among fans. The transformation from an innocent and self-centered child to a shrewd and strategizing leader was a significant milestone not only for viewers but also for Turner, who had been essaying this role since she was 15 years old.
As a dedicated fan and former portrayer of one of Game of Thrones’ most iconic characters, Sansa Stark, I can’t help but entertain the thought of stepping back into her shoes once more. In a recent conversation with Variety, I shared my feelings about reprising the role, expressing that while it’s a possibility, there’s a key factor that would make my decision crystal clear – the reuniting of the original cast and creative team. After all, their collective magic is what truly brought Sansa to life on screen.
She implied that if the cast and crew were not identical to the original, she wouldn’t watch it, and referring to this as Season 9 would be misleading. However, despite dismissing the possibility of another Game of Thrones season, she acknowledged that Sansa remains a character that lingers in her thoughts.
As a devoted admirer, I often find myself pondering over Sansa’s fate: “Where would she be five years down the line? What would her life look like? Would she still reign as Queen in the North? Would she prove to be an effective leader? Or perhaps there’d be another dreadful conflict that unfolds? I can’t help but wish I could witness it,” I mused.
Regrettably, the final season of Game of Thrones fell short of expectations. It was plagued with a hurried and chaotic storyline that seemed to have numerous inconsistencies, leading to its lowest Rotten Tomato ratings ever in the show’s history. Yet, some members of the cast took it upon themselves to defend the series finale on various instances.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Dinklage – known for his role as Tyrion Lannister – defended the show by expressing his satisfaction with the finale. “I really enjoyed it!” he shared. “Of course, you’re entitled to your own opinion. If I were to say, ‘No, I didn’t like it at all. The entire last season was disastrous,’ that wouldn’t sit well. But to be honest, I did enjoy it,” he continued.
Kristian Nairn, the actor who played Hodor, defended Daenerys’ actions in the final season’s finale when discussing with Screenrant. He argued that it is simple for people to say she acted out of character, but indications of her impending demise were evident throughout. “She even declared at one point that once Drogon grows larger, she’d torch King’s Landing. And guess what? She did precisely what she threatened,” he concluded.
Game of Thrones is available to stream on Max.
