Recently, Chris Rock’s slap incident at the 2022 Oscars was discussed by Will Smith. This event sparked widespread attention and ultimately led to Smith being prohibited from future Oscars events.
After almost two decades, the 56-year-old actor is back in the music scene, releasing his studio album titled “Based on a True Story”. In this album, he discusses the event that occurred.
On stage, Chris Rock was struck by Smith following a humorous remark about his spouse, resulting in a 10-year ban from the Oscars and extensive media attention.
Omarr Rambert, responsible for overseeing the album’s production, pointed out that this was the initial portrayal of Smith where the audience saw him as a villain instead of the endearing heroic figure he is typically known as.
According to Rambert’s statement to The Post, this was the initial instance where he was portrayed as the antagonist instead of the hero on the internet. Now, he aims to express his vulnerability, honesty, and share lesser-known aspects of himself.
The disagreement originated from a humorous comment concerning Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss condition, which prompted Smith to physically strike Rock on stage. He subsequently cautioned, “Don’t mention my wife’s name like that.” Later, Smith expressed regret but acknowledged that his actions were fueled by strong feelings.
In a deeply reflective track titled “Int. Barbershop – Day,” the song initially adopts a confrontational tone by stating, “Will Smith has been dismissed from public favor.” Additionally, he expresses this sentiment further in a verse, “He and Jada are both unpredictable, woman, what are you discussing? / It’s best to avoid mentioning his wife’s name in your conversations.
After the Oscars controversy, Will Smith chose to stay out of the public spotlight. Rambert remarked that the Smith family became even closer during this period, stating, “Many individuals outside of Will’s situation might think, ‘You’re wealthy and well-known.’ However, he is still a human being. Taking a break from the limelight, feeling isolated as people seem to be against you, isn’t enjoyable, especially when you were considered the good guy.
Instead of just making a comeback with music, Smith is additionally planning a European tour this coming summer as well.
