Will Smith Addresses Chris Rock Oscars Slap Controversy in New Album; Raps That He Won’t Get ‘Nominated’

After much anticipation, Will Smith has spoken out about the well-known 2022 Oscars incident! On March 28th, Friday, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor released his new album titled Based on a True Story. The opening track from Int. Barbershop — Day begins with the lyrics “Will Smith is cancelled.

The tune initiates with two distinctly pitched voices conversing and sharing tales about the actor. One voice queries, “Who on earth is Will Smith?”, while the other voice expresses they can’t forgive the actor for his past actions, alluding to a specific event.

The actor known for playing in the Men in Black films suffered damage to his reputation when he stormed onto the Oscars stage and struck Chris Rock following a joke about him. During the evening, the host made a joke at the expense of Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, which is due to a health issue called aphasia, likening her to GI Joe.

The humor fell flat for the couple, leading Smith to storm onto the Academy stage, strike the host, and verbally confront him. At that moment, he exclaimed, “Leave my wife’s name out of your filthy mouth!”

Or in a more conversational tone:

The joke didn’t go down well with the couple, causing Smith to make an abrupt appearance on stage at the Academy, hit the host, and scream at him. He shouted, “Don’t mention my wife’s name in such a disgusting way!

After the event, folks sympathized with Rock, appreciating his calm demeanor amidst Smith’s unwarranted response.

Despite claiming the Best Actor Oscar at the 2021 Academy Awards for his role in the sports drama “King Richard,” Smith faced a 10-year ban from attending the ceremony. Yet, he humorously addressed the situation on his new album.

In the second song titled “You Lookin’ for Me?”, he expressed some doubts about not receiving an Oscar nomination in his lyrics. He sang, “You’ll need to adjust/ I won’t slow down, my work remains fiery/ Even if I don’t get nominated.” Despite being barred from future Academy events, his chances of being nominated in the future would remain unaffected.
