James Gunn recently provided an important update regarding Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman in the upcoming film series. Fans are eagerly awaiting the second installment of this trilogy, but there’s been some speculation about whether it will be distributed under the DC Universe or a different branding. According to recent news articles, Matt Reeves’ Batman universe is expected to debut under the Elseworlds label rather than DC.
After James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed leadership roles at the DC studios, a modification in the movie’s poster occurred. However, this change has left fans disheartened since they had hoped that Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman would interact with other characters from the Universe.
James Gunn’s take on Robert Pattinson’s Batman existing outside of DCU
In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, the DC head clarified that Robert Pattinson’s movie isn’t currently part of their studio plans. Gunn added, “I’ve discussed this before, and it’s not our immediate focus at the moment. Things are always changing, so we’ll decide what’s next as time goes on.
According to fans, it would be exciting to see Batman interact with other superheroes, but this doesn’t align well with Gunn and Safran’s plans for the studios. At present, DC creators are focusing on The Brave and The Bold, a project that will depict Batman’s transformation into a crime-fighting hero.
In the upcoming narrative and sequence of events, Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman may not be present frequently. As a result, James Gunn has opted to forgo studio production for this movie.
Regarding the latest news about The Batman II, Matt Reeves confirmed that the script has been finalized. He posted a photo on Instagram showing him and the co-writer together, with the script laid out and the Batman symbol clearly visible in the foreground.
The movie is expected to hit theaters in October 2027.
