9-1-1 fans were taken aback when Peter Krause’s character, Bobby Nash, was written off last week in an episode called Lab Rats. Since the series debuted in 2018, Krause has been a mainstay on the show, playing the role of the first responder. Interestingly, even though Krause is no longer part of the drama, the showrunner, Tim Minear, informed Variety that the character will continue to appear in upcoming episodes.
During their chat, the maker of 9-1-1 explained to Media Portal why now seemed like the ideal moment to write off that particular character.
As Minear put it, “Typically, I wouldn’t craft a two-part thriller for Episodes 14 and 15. Let me give you some insight: these episodes were actually filmed as Episodes 13 and 14. However, I knew there would be a pause after Episode 15, and I didn’t want to end the season with it because I felt that at least three episodes should follow.
Additionally, he mentioned, “I filmed Episode 15 and aired it as Episode 13 intentionally. We produced it quickly so that Episodes 14 and 15 could form a two-part series. Then, I had the opportunity to handle the repercussions with three subsequent episodes.
In simpler terms, the person responsible for creating the drama series explained, “It’s not as if Bobby dies and life just carries on as usual. I believe that both the audience and the characters require about three episodes to fully process this event.
Tim Minear mentioned that the past three episodes didn’t serve as a therapeutic session for the audience, but rather offered excitement and suspense, leaving viewers anxiously waiting. Moreover, he hinted that the upcoming three episodes of the series are set to focus on the character of Bobby’s demise.
When the interviewer inquired about whether viewers would witness the character in a spectral form or otherwise, the creator affirmed that episode 15 of season 7 was not going to be Krause’s final appearance for sure.
