As a dedicated fan who has followed Mark Harmon’s illustrious career for nearly two decades, I am overjoyed to hear about his surprising return to the NCIS franchise through the prequel series, NCIS: Origins. Though I was heartbroken when he bid adieu to Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 2021, this news has rekindled my enthusiasm and brought a smile to my face.
Mark Harmon is making headlines as he will make a surprising return to the NCIS franchise in the upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins. Harmon, who played the beloved character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the show for almost 20 years, will make a brief appearance in the premiere episode, as the new series will center on a younger version of his character. Read on further to know more details!
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but acknowledge the profound impact Mark Harmon had on us fans through his exceptional portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the beloved military police procedural series NCIS. For almost two decades, he breathed life into this character, and when he decided to leave the series in 2021 during season 19, it was a bittersweet moment for us all. Now, the captivating crime drama is making its comeback with NCIS: Origins, a prequel that introduces Austin Stowell as young Leroy. In this new chapter, I am honored to be part of the team, not only narrating the series but also serving as an executive producer, alongside Harmon’s guiding presence.
According to Deadline, during a talk with reporters on September 19, NCIS: Origins’ co-showrunner David J. North revealed that Mark Harmon would make a brief appearance in the first episode and some new footage was filmed for the prequel. He mentioned, “This decision came about through discussions between Mark, myself, and Gina Monreal.” Furthermore, he expressed his hope that viewers will be thrilled to see him again after such a long time.
In simpler terms, they didn’t reveal much about the Freaky Friday actor’s upcoming appearance on the show, but hinted at potential future episodes. They clarified that at present, the series is centered around Harmon’s character as the narrator, who is telling the story of Gibbs in 1991.
Regarding potential further appearances, he indicated that they are keeping an open mind about every option and stated, “When it comes to Mark reappearing, we’re open to any possibilities.
According to reports, the official summary of the series indicates that NCIS: Origins delves into the past, before the occurrences depicted in the original show. In this spin-off, Austin Stowell portrays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he begins his career as a new special agent at the budding NCIS Camp Pendleton office. Here, he carves out his role within a tough, makeshift team led by the legendary Mike Franks, played by Kyle Schmid.
Meanwhile, NCIS: Origins will premiere on October 14, on CBS.
