As a lifelong DC fan who has witnessed the evolution of Superman’s canine companion since I was a kid, I must say that the recent revelation about Krypto’s ability to speak or lack thereof in James Gunn‘s upcoming film has left me both intrigued and perplexed. On one hand, I understand the decision to keep Krypto silent as it could offer a unique twist on the character. On the other, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia for the days when Krypto would bark out solutions to problems or engage in witty banter with his superhero pal.
Two days past, James Gunn unveiled the initial snapshot of Krypto the Superdog for the forthcoming Superman movie. The picture depicted Superman and Krypto on the Moon, gazing at Earth, mirroring a renowned comic book scene. Ever since then, Krypto has been the focus of web discussions and speculations, sparking this report as well.
Ever since Krypto was introduced, fans have been buzzing non-stop about his adorable appearance. This conversation has further expanded to speculate on Krypto’s future in the DCU, including his potential role within the narrative.
Given the circumstance, it’s fortunate that James Gunn often engages online and responds to queries about his work. Notably, he addressed a significant fan inquiry concerning one of Krypto’s iconic features – his capacity for speech.
If you’re curious about whether Krypto can talk in the DC Universe, don’t stop here! We’ve got the information you need.
Hey there fellow fan! In case you haven’t caught wind of it or if it’s slipped your mind, two days past, James Gunn unveiled the initial snap of Krypto the Superdog from the forthcoming Superman movie. He spilled the beans that Krypto was modeled after a dog named Ozu and here’s how their shared scene with Superman is shaping up:
This summer, Krypto makes his screen debut in Superman. Interestingly enough, Krypto’s character was modeled after our canine companion Ozu, whom we brought home soon after I began writing Superman. Ozu, who hailed from a heart-wrenching situation with 60 other dogs in a backyard, had never encountered humans before. To put it mildly, he was quite a handful!

Without a doubt, there’s been plenty of buzz about Ozu on social media, with fans raving about him and making him the focus of numerous conversations and speculations ever since.
His background has been altered slightly, yet it remains quite faithful to his classic comic book roots. As for Krypto’s specific function, it appears that Gunn intends to utilize him in upcoming projects.
According to Gunn, it’s true that Krypto is an extraterrestrial canine. There have been whispers that Krypto might make an appearance in Supergirl, but during a question-and-answer session, the director was asked about whether Krypto can speak. Here’s what the movie maker shared regarding this aspect:
Krypto won’t talk in SUPERMAN!

It appears that Krypto won’t speak in the DC Universe, which might delight some fans while disappointing others. Personally, I’m undecided – if they alter the character significantly, they should provide a compelling backstory to justify it, and I hope they manage to deliver on that front.
