Will James Gandolfini’s Son Michael Play Young Tony Soprano Again? Actor Says, ‘Closed…’

Fans of The Sopranos who fondly remember James Gandolfini, the show’s late star, still yearn for its return to their screens. Apart from missing Gandolfini, they also pine for the HBO series that concluded in 2007. Recently, Michael, the actor’s son, has hinted at the prospect of him portraying a younger Tony Soprano in a potential future project.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Michael emphasized that the universe of the original show creator, David Chase, was his own, and they were on the same wavelength. He also shared that he knew David Chase was involved in other thrilling projects outside the realm of The Sopranos.

The performer indicated a desire to work with Chase again, saying, “Tony may have reached his final resting place, but you never know – perhaps not. I’d wager that character has likely finished its story.

If you’re not familiar, Michael has portrayed the young Tony Soprano in a previous production titled “Many Saints of Newark.” This work was written and directed by Chase.

The film, serving as a prequel to the HBO series, made its debut in 2021. Michael shared his feelings with a media outlet about feeling “honored” for being connected to that narrative. He further mentioned that he was just a small piece of that vast universe, and for him, it was “one of the most significant gifts bestowed upon my career.” Therefore, he is thankful for this experience and eager to embark on new ventures.
