Will Ferrell Is Very Creeped Out by a Terrifying Buddy the Elf Animatronic

The movie “Elf” deserves its place in the Christmas Movie Pantheon, primarily due to the memorable character of Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell. Known for his endearing, innocent, and sweet demeanor, Buddy brought joy wherever he went during the holiday season. However, this description does not apply to the animatronic version of Buddy that Home Depot introduced last year, which was more akin to a Christmas horror rather than a delight. Even Krampus would shy away from decorating his home with such a terrifying abomination. If you doubt the terror this animatronic truly embodied, it even startled Will Ferrell himself upon meeting his robotic doppelganger.

On the TODAY show visit, Will Ferrell chatted about his latest movie, “You’re Cordially Invited,” co-starring Reese Witherspoon. Towards the end of the conversation, hosts Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie brought up a topic: a six-foot Buddy the Elf animatronic that was released in 2024, which has been causing quite a stir. Ferrell acknowledged hearing about it, but as a crew member wheeled it into view, his reaction suggested he hadn’t yet seen it up close – gasping at the sight!

As he should. It doesn’t look like him at all. Not unless his face melted off in Hell.

After listening to it speak, Ferrell found himself shuddering. He even jokingly referred to it as “Buddy the Elf the Axe Murderer.” However, what was truly bizarre about this thing, according to Ferrell, wasn’t just its appearance and voice. He exclaimed, “What’s mind-blowing is that someone actually approved of it!” It should be clarified that he was not the one who gave the go-ahead. Eventually, after being bothered by the animatronic’s eerie noises, Ferrell graciously removed it from sight by wheeling it off-camera.

Home Depot has discontinued offering the Buddy the Elf animatronic, as evidenced by the empty page at their online store. Yet, if you’re seeking an exceptional Halloween decoration, you can still purchase one on Amazon for $400, which is currently reduced from its original price of $500. Quite a steal… for those with a darker sense of humor or decorating tastes.

Should you acquire one of these unusual Buddy robots, it allows you to enjoy the movie “Elf” not only during Christmas but also on Halloween. However, please note that we won’t be visiting your home on either occasion.
