I just saw the first glimpses of Netflix’s new series, The Hawk, and it’s fascinating! It centers around a legendary golfer who’s infamous for a massive on-course collapse. But now, he’s making a comeback, and it looks like he’s hoping to win back the fans who still believe in him. I’m definitely intrigued!
Here’s what else the streamer’s Tudum revealed about his comeback story:
After a long break, Lonnie is back competing at the highest level, more than twenty years after his incredible 2004 season. He’s brought his whole family and team with him, including his son Lance, a professional golfer himself; his wife Stacy, from whom he’s separated; Lance’s fiancée Natalie, who’s popular on social media; and his new caddie, Sam. But he’ll also have to overcome some old challenges—rival golfers like Golden Fisk, who has defeated him twice, and Anton, a member of the PGA TOUR board—and even deal with Stacy’s new partner, Radford. It won’t be an easy comeback, that’s for sure.
Molly Shannon plays the ex-wife of the main character, while Jimmy Tatro is his son. Fortune Feimster will be Lonnie’s caddie, and Luke Wilson will play his rival, Fisk. Chris Parnell joins the cast as Anton, and Katelyn Tarver will manage the main character’s social media. David Hornsby plays Radford, with Gabriel Hogan and Aida Osman also appearing in the show.
Will Ferrell is known for his roles in sports comedies, but this new show will be his first time starring in a sports series on television. (Though we shouldn’t forget his work on Eastbound and Down!) Will having a longer format lead to even more funny moments? We’ll see when The Hawk arrives on Netflix this summer.
