As a dedicated fan who has followed The Conjuring series since its inception, I must say that Vera Farmiga’s heartfelt farewell feels like the end of an era. Having witnessed her transformation into Lorraine Warren, a character that embodies strength, resilience, and empathy, it’s hard not to feel a pang of sadness at the prospect of her departure from the franchise.
Actress Vera Farmiga, well-known for her portrayal of Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films, has posted an emotional message that seems to hint at her leaving the series. This announcement follows the completion of filming for the fourth movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, for co-star Patrick Wilson, who plays Ed Warren.
This week, Farmiga put up an emotional tribute on social media, publishing a picture of her and Wilson in character as the Warrens on their wedding day. She reminisced about their journey, saying: “About 5000 days ago, this man and I signed a WB contract and pledged to embody Ed and Lorraine Warren.” She disclosed that Wilson had wrapped up his filming, while she still had “12 more hours of laughter and chaos” ahead on set.
In a heartfelt and retrospective manner, Farmiga referred to their on-screen bond as an “ideal pairing.” Her statement carried a hint of nostalgia and finality. She reminisced about Wilson trimming his iconic sideburns and departing from the set, which seemed like a farewell. Fans are led to believe that either Farmiga or Wilson might not feature in the forthcoming Conjuring TV series based on these speculations.
When Warner Bros. Discovery revealed the show’s 2023 launch, they suggested that the story of the Warrens would carry on, sparking speculation that their characters might shift towards episodic narratives. However, Farmiga’s comment about this period being “a tough time” has left fans questioning what to expect.
Regardless of any uncertainty, it seems the TV series is continuing to be worked on. In fact, HBO and Max executive Casey Bloys announced back in June 2024 that the project was progressing.
Filming for The Conjuring: Last Rites started in October and is set to hit theaters on September 5, 2025. It’s undecided if Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will continue their involvement with the series after this movie, but fans are preparing for potential changes within the franchise. In the meantime, moviegoers can anticipate witnessing the Warrens’ last major on-screen journey in the upcoming sequel of this well-known horror saga.
