As a seasoned gamer and superhero show enthusiast who’s been following The Boys since its inception, I can confidently say that the fourth season was nothing short of extraordinary. The character development, especially for Black Noir, was truly remarkable, making us eagerly anticipate what’s to come in the final season.
It’s no secret that “The Boys” is among the most beloved superhero TV series globally. As each season unfolds, Eric Kripke’s creative direction has elevated Garth Ennis’ gritty and unconventional approach to the superhero genre to unprecedented levels, solidifying its status as one of the most-viewed TV shows in history.
Instead of revisiting the sensational fourth season of our favorite show, which wrapped up not long ago, as we eagerly anticipate its mind-blowing final chapter, let’s reminisce about an aspect that hasn’t received much attention before: Black Noir. This season, his role became significant due to his intriguing resurrection and a host of other transformative changes in the character.
Recently, we shared news about the franchise unveiling a behind-the-scenes audition clip featuring Nathan Mitchell, the actor portraying Black Noir. In this footage, the character disclosed a tantalizing detail that could potentially foreshadow something intriguing in the future.
If you haven’t caught it yet, during the build-up to season 4, the show The Boys shared an amusing behind-the-scenes clip. It was a fake audition tape featuring actor Nathan Mitchell as a different character, vying for the role of the “new” Black Noir. You can check it out here:

In the video, both unnamed and Black Noir characters converse, and it’s made clear that the former attended God U – short for Godolkin University, a university known as the “superhero university” and the main setting of the Gen V series, which is the initial spin-off in the franchise.
Following the unveiling of the video, the actor subsequently spoke with TV Insider for an interview. During this conversation, he was queried about the possibility of Black Noir appearing in Gen V based on the content of the video, and here’s what Mitchell responded:
As a gamer, I’m curious if my character, who studied at God U, might make an appearance in Gen V. Is there a chance he’ll take a break from serving The Seven to join the action in the new game?
Absolutely, it’s plausible! Time will tell, but I’m excited about the potential directions they could take with Noir and the other characters in this series. Here’s hoping we get to delve deeper into the show’s universe!
