As a dedicated follower of the enchanting world of theater and cinema, I must say that Marissa Bode’s journey in Wicked has been nothing short of captivating. Her story, much like the musical itself, is filled with a unique blend of drama, resilience, and pure joy.
Marissa Bode, who first appeared on screen in the film version of a popular Broadway musical, reminisced about shooting the song sequence “Dancing Through Life” with Ethan Slater’s character Boq. She also shared her experience of tumbling out of her wheelchair during one take, which she described as both “impressive” and “quiet.
Despite Bode appearing to be in high spirits following the mishap, the cast and team behind Wicked were clearly worried. Her fellow actor and scene partner, Slater, echoed this sentiment, commenting on the incident: “Seeing someone fall is the scariest thing.
The actor mentioned that the team found Bode’s laughter somewhat unsettling, making them even more anxious. Slater commented, “It seemed like it had to be a warning sign.” Regarding Bode, she enjoys scenes with an exciting punch, one of which was when Cynthia Erivo’s character inadvertently caused her wheelchair to fly.
Despite being meant to portray fear in that moment, Bode surprisingly reveled in the excitement. As soon as the camera stopped rolling, she would ask for another take. “Even though I was totally terrified, I found myself saying, ‘Let’s do it again! Let’s go!’ It was simply a blast.
Regardless of the obstacles, Slater and Bode pulled off the music and dance perfectly without a hitch.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share the heartfelt words of our beloved Redheads Anonymous actor. In his own voice, he expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of his character and her movements. He confided that mastering choreography is an intimidating, demanding process. Yet, he’s elated that we were given the chance to rehearse extensively, making the performance appear effortlessly fluid.
Slater mentioned that we got a chance to collaborate and understand our characters better through our actions. This understanding significantly influenced the entire film, he said. Moreover, this scene is vital as it reveals Boq and Nessa’s genuine feelings for each other. Slater also highlighted that this moment was crucial in shaping their friendship within the movie.
At present, the Wicked musical featuring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Johnathan Bailey is playing in cinemas.
