Why Was Jelly Roll Sent To Jail At 13? Find Out As Country Star Opens Up About Past Mistakes

As a lifestyle expert, I am always intrigued by the transformative journeys of individuals who have overcome their past mistakes and found success. Jelly Roll‘s story is a powerful example of redemption and personal growth, and it resonates deeply with me as someone who has also navigated challenging chapters in life.

Over time, Jelly Roll has managed to establish himself prominently within the music world, yet there remain certain events from his past that linger in his thoughts. In a recent installment of On Purpose with Jay Shetty, this country musician openly shared insights about his criminal background and the event that led him to face legal consequences.

Speaking about his past indiscretions and the crime he committed in his youth, the “I Am Not Okay” singer referred to himself as someone who was more like a grown child, or a “bigger kid.” At that time, Jelly Roll (Jason Bradley DeFord) explained, he had a sense of resentment, carrying a small burden on his shoulders.

In conversation with Shetty, who was once an artist labeled as the Son of a Sinner, it was revealed that during his time in the lively community of Antioch, Tennessee, he yearned for acceptance and discovered it among the city’s streets.

Speaking about an incident from his past, the singer explained that it occurred during a period when wallets attached by chains were popular. “During our fight,” he said, “I picked up one of those chain wallets to strike him, and that’s why I ended up being charged with strong-arm robbery.

Subsequently, he mentioned that this event triggered a period of approximately 20 months spent within the system. This took place when he was only 13 years old and had been apprehended for strong-arm robbery.

Even though a significant amount of time has elapsed, he still grapples with feelings of guilt about past errors, expressing such thoughts to Shetty during the interview.

Bradley DeFord admitted that he found it awkward to discuss this topic. He confessed that, despite being in his early thirties, he had not completely shaken off his past mistakes. In fact, his behavior as a child and even into his twenties was quite unruly.

Afterward, he shared memories of recent encounters when individuals praised him as “one of the kindest people” they’d ever known. Yet, the musician pointed out that this impression is due to the fact that those who praise him haven’t known him for more than 20 years.

In conversation with the host, Jelly Roll expressed his desire to reconcile with the individual who suffered at his hands during a past robbery. Additionally, he mentioned that his 16-year-old daughter, Bailee Ann, will embody qualities he lacked in life.

For those unversed, the Glitter singer is a proud father of two children, Bailee Ann and Noah 7.
