Acting legend Val Kilmer, renowned for his performances in films like Top Gun, Tombstone, and Batman Forever, has sadly passed away at the age of 65. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, reported that he succumbed to complications from pneumonia at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
In more recent times, the actor’s battles with health issues were well-known. However, it was his significant impact on the film industry that earned him widespread respect in Hollywood.
After Val Kilmer’s passing, one of his final Instagram posts has drawn attention. On February 23, 2025, he posted a video showing him donning a Batman mask alongside artist David Choe. Notably, Kilmer is remembered for playing the Caped Crusader in the 1995 film Batman Forever.
In the video, he commented, “It feels like ages,” as he donned the mask and faced the camera. Choe then replied, “You’re looking good.
In place of Michael Keaton, Kilmer assumed the character of Batman when he stepped down from the movie. Directed by Joel Schumacher, this film turned out to be a hit at the box office, amassing an impressive revenue of more than $336 million globally.
In a 1995 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kilmer explained that the role he took on was unlike any other he’d encountered before. The magnitude of the character and the unusual decision by Michael Keaton to step back from it, prompted him to accept without even reading the script first.
Kilmer’s most recent Instagram post, shared on March 22, displayed one of his latest artworks. This artwork could be purchased from his website, and he described it in the caption: “It exudes that late-night ambiance. Soft colors with a gentle warmth, reminiscent of when the campfire begins to cool but you’re still fully awake.
Throughout his professional journey, Kilmer was recognized not just for his acting skills but also for his deep-seated love for painting and literature. Regularly, he would unveil his artistic creations to his admirers, and continued to engage in creative endeavors even amidst his health struggles.
