In a twist of events, the Predator series is changing roles once more. Instead of being the menacing hunter, this time the Predator becomes the main character. Director Dan Trachtenberg revisits the franchise after ‘Prey’ with ‘Predator: Badlands’, and the first trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into a story set in the future where the Predator dominates the spotlight. Check it out below.
The Predator Becomes the Protagonist
In a distant, alien landscape, the movie “Predator: Badlands” presents Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as its central character – a young Predator outcast. Director Trachtenberg plans to evoke sympathy for this creature while maintaining its fearsome image. As he explained to Empire magazine, the creature will be prominently featured, taking charge of events. This new angle adds an emotional dimension, but it remains a brutal storyline.
In my perspective, while this upcoming film isn’t a straight-up sequel to “Prey,” it maintains the same exhilarating essence – it daringly explores uncharted territories for a Predator movie. The director has subtly conveyed that the intention was to craft something spiritually aligned with “Prey” yet uniquely distinct, standing on its own two feet.
Trachtenberg stated that the character he’s working on is both fearsome and emotionally touching. Crafting a persona that leaves you feeling connected yet intimidated is proving to be a difficult yet thrilling task for him.
Elle Fanning Plays a Key Role
In the movie, Elle Fanning takes on not one but several roles. Director Trachtenberg hinted that these roles were challenging in all aspects – emotionally, physically, and organizationally. Don’t be surprised if she steals the show as more than just a secondary character.
In a playful manner, Trachtenberg hinted that she encountered significant difficulties in this film, not just emotionally and physically but also in terms of organization and management.
The Story
In the movie “Predator: Badlands“, a young Predator is cast out by his tribe and joins forces with Thia (Fanning) on a perilous quest. Their objective? To confront a brand-new, formidable adversary. The film seamlessly blends survival, action, and an unconventional partnership amidst a rugged alien landscape. It’s a mix of a survival narrative, character development, but with the Predator always taking center stage.

The film titled “Predator: Badlands” will be released in theaters and IMAX on November 7, 2025. This production is brought to you by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor.
