As a long-time fan who has followed Kanye West’s career since his College Dropout days, I must say this recent allegation by Jenn An is truly disheartening and shocking. Having watched him evolve into a global icon, it’s hard to reconcile such an alleged act with the artistic genius he showcases in his music and fashion.
Kanye West is under accusation by Jenn An, a well-known contestant from America’s Next Top Model‘s previous season. According to Page Six, she alleged that the musician physically harmed her during a music video shoot in 2010, specifically by grabbing her and forcing his fingers into her throat. This is claimed to be an instance of assault.
It is said that a lawsuit was apparently filed by Jenn on the 22nd of November, specifically at a federal court in New York City. This legal action stems from an incident that supposedly took place during the shooting of the music video for “In For The Kill,” which features La Roux. West was part of its remixed version.
The lawsuit obtained by Page Six states that Jenn was employed as a background artist during the filming of the music video in September 2010, which took place at the Chelsea Hotel in New York. She alleged that while working, the well-known singer indicated her to the crew and said, “Get me that Asian woman,” referring to the revealing lingerie she was wearing.
In the account given, it’s claimed that the Plaintiff stated she wasn’t dressed extensively, prompting the rapper to supposedly respond that this was the factor behind his selection of her. The Plaintiff also noted that he requested other performers in the background to exit the room.
According to reports, Jenn allegedly asserted that the Flashing Lights rapper stood very tall over her, breathed heavily, and requested the camera team to focus closely on her face at an unexpected moment. Furthermore, she claimed he mimicked a disturbing act of simulating forced oral sex using his gestures.
According to the report, the lawsuit claimed that West began to squeeze Jenn’s throat on camera with one hand, followed by wrapping his other hand around her neck and continuing to strangle her using both hands.
Jenn asserted that the rapper forcefully inserted multiple fingers into her throat, repeatedly pushed and withdrew them, and made her choke, for over a minute straight.
According to the plaintiff’s claims, West reportedly exclaimed, “This is art! This is fucking art! I am just like Picasso,” as he allegedly performed an action reminiscent of gagging in pornography, BDSM, or deep throat practices.
According to the report, it’s said that the plaintiff found it hard to breathe and momentarily lost consciousness. Once the defendant, West, decided he was done with the plaintiff, her face was left covered in spittle and smudged makeup.
In addition to West, she also named Universal Music Group (UMG) as a joint defendant in this case, claiming that the company “neglected” to act during the incident. The lawsuit states that the rapper’s “misogynistic, offensive, and abusive scandals were a lucrative aspect of his brand, which was so profitable for Defendant Universal Music that they chose not to interfere, despite his illegal actions.
In the court documents, Jenn asserted that the rapper breached New York’s Gender-Based Violence Law. She has asked the judge for a trial by jury to claim punitive damages, attorney fees, as well as compensation for mental, emotional, and physical harm, distress, pain, suffering, and damage to reputation.
The suit also mentioned that affiliate labels with UMG including Interscope Records and other influential figures in the industry attempted to “bury” the incident. Appearances by West and Jenn are not featured in the final version of the music video.
