Once again, Jennifer Lopez grabs the spotlight, this time due to a legal predicament. The entertainer is facing a lawsuit because she reportedly posted paparazzi pictures on her social media account without obtaining necessary copyright permissions, according to Blast.
As per the report, the legal issue arose due to a photo that was taken prior to the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, which Lopez is said to have posted on both her Instagram and other social media platforms.
On Saturday, May 17, it was reported that both photographer Edwin Blanco and the U.S.-based photo agency, BackGrid USA, had filed two separate federal lawsuits against a well-known singer.
It has been asserted that they jointly owned the rights to the photos depicting the singer outside the Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair Party at the Bar Marmont in Los Angeles on January 4 – an event held the night prior to a well-respected awards ceremony.
Based on reports from Blanco’s and BackGrid’s legal representative, Peter Perkowski, it is claimed that the singer who performed Love Don’t Cost a Thing shared images without obtaining prior permission on both her Instagram and X accounts on January 5th. This unauthorized use of copyrighted material led to fans and fashion brands re-posting these pictures, as detailed in the publication.
According to the lawyer, it’s said that both BackGrid and Blanco reached out to Lopez’s team a week following the claimed sharing of the images for discussions regarding the issue.
As per the account given, the discussion seemed successful, and both parties consented orally to a monetary resolution. However, the singer’s camp didn’t formally document the agreement in writing or carry out any financial transactions.
In this legal case, Lopez might end up shelling out as much as $150,000 for each image, should it go against her. Moreover, if the lawsuit prevails, she would be required to pay a total of $300,000 per broadcast or publication outlet.
According to recent reports, the singer has faced similar accusations before. In fact, back in 2019, a lawsuit was filed against her for posting a paparazzi photo featuring herself and Alex Rodriguez. This case, managed by Perkowski, eventually led to a voluntary dismissal in 2020 as reported by the publication.
