It appears that Blake Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with Justin Baldoni has been surrounded by additional controversy, as six former employees of her defunct lifestyle company, Preserve, have reportedly shared accounts of a “toxic,” “unprofessional,” and “chaotic” work environment they encountered.
For those unfamiliar, Lively established Preserve back in 2014 as an e-commerce platform specializing in artisanally crafted home goods. However, the business didn’t last long, closing its doors after just a year of operation.
On Monday, a previous colleague criticized the company in a Daily Mail article as being “a complete chaos,” finding it ironic that Lively’s allegations against Baldoni were made, considering Preserve was “one of the most chaotic, toxic, draining, and disordered workplaces you could possibly imagine.
As a die-hard admirer speaking candidly, I must share my shock over the account of a previous colleague who worked under Blake Lively. The person claimed that her demeanor during their tenure at her company suggested an indifference towards her team – something that left me utterly surprised given my fervent appreciation for her talent and persona. Moreover, they described the work environment as downright toxic. This revelation, unfortunately, tarnishes the image I had of Blake Lively and her leadership style.
One worker recounted a photo session for the company, which took place at Lively’s mansion in Westchester County, NY. They claimed that upon everyone’s arrival, Lively appeared to be disheveled or unkempt.
It’s been said that the actress’s brother, Eric Lively, who held the position of creative director within the company, was habitually careless and often slept past the expected time, resulting in employees having to wait outside in the cold before they were allowed into the Manhattan studio apartment that functioned as the company’s headquarters.
A former worker claimed they spent “many months” without any seating in the studio, as furniture wasn’t delivered yet. This ex-staffer also criticized Eric by stating he was “completely unprepared” to manage the brand, further commenting that the work environment was “often unprofessional.
It had been asserted that desks were absent for periods ranging from weeks to months. A former employee commented, “The humor in it being a lifestyle website peddling high-priced goods wasn’t missed by anyone.
A previous team member labeled Lively’s sibling as someone who merely assumed the role of a creative director in appearance. Furthermore, former staff members claimed that they were required to work an excessive number of hours, with two individuals even struggling to cover their public transit expenses because of late wage payments.
As per the report, some former employees, who had threatened legal action due to alleged mistreatment, were awarded settlements worth up to USD 300,000. These ex-employees asserted that the actress’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, managed to keep the matter under wraps by effectively silencing and suppressing all information related to the company.
