Why Does Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams Not Want to Notify Ex-Wife Aryn Drake-Lee About Their Kids’ Medical Care?

According to recent court documents filed by Jesse Williams, he is not obligated to notify his ex-wife, Aryn Drake-Lee, prior to any medical treatments for their shared children. Earlier this year, the actor from Grey’s Anatomy was granted sole custody of their two children’s medical care, giving him full decision-making authority in these matters.

In March 2025, the court in California decided that Williams isn’t required to inform Drake-Lee prior to his medical check-ups or orthodontist visits. But, following any treatments he undergoes, he must let her know about it.

In his recent submission, Williams contends that the current court decree grants him exclusive authority to arrange orthodontic treatment for Sadie, without any prior notice needed for Aryn. Nevertheless, he guarantees to inform Aryn about it later on.

Aryn Drake-Lee has expressed disagreement with the court’s verdict, labeling it a significant breach of her parental responsibilities. In papers submitted to the court on Friday, May 23, Drake-Lee asked for the immediate removal of Williams’ legal team.

In simpler terms, they asserted that the lawyer acted unacceptably, committing what could be considered deceit towards the court. This included relying on hearsay instead of verified evidence, and repeatedly disregarding Drake-Lee’s rights to a fair hearing. Additionally, it was argued that Drake-Lee did not have adequate notice or time to react to Williams’ initial petition for medical custody.

Previously, Williams alleged that Drake-Lee breached court rules by supposedly threatening their daughter Sadie’s dentist. According to legal documents, he states that Drake-Lee warned the dentist she would sue if he treated the children. US Weekly reported that this incident was one of the factors that led the court to grant Williams sole medical custody.

Williams’ legal team has countered Drake-Lee’s recent petition by arguing that there is no pressing need, no imminent harm, and no urgent threat warranting Aryn’s demands to be granted without prior notice. They further added that it remains unclear if any hearsay evidence, should Aryn be referring to any, has been provided.

The upcoming court hearing regarding custody matters was initially set for May 29, 2025. But because of scheduling complications, Williams’ lawyers have asked to move it back to July 10 instead.

As a devoted follower, I was once married to Jesse Williams from 2012 until our divorce in 2017. Our legal proceedings over divorce and child custody were finalized in October 2020. In September 2024, I made the first move by petitioning for modifications in our custody arrangement, aiming for more visitation time and an equal share of physical custody.
