However, developing a worthy continuation turned out to be challenging. Not all narratives require additional layers. Consequently, they had difficulty finding a fitting and coherent sequel plot.”

It’s been reported by reliable sources to the media that Mamma Mia 3 could potentially be under production at the studio. Earlier, one of these trusted sources shared with the media that the filming hasn’t started yet, but a good number of the original cast might return for the third installment.

 

While Meryl Streep was absent in the sequel, writer Richard Curtis shared that his daughter inspired him to write the film as a prequel. He explained, “By having Donna pass away between the end of the first movie and the start of the second, we could delve deeper into Donna’s past through flashbacks. I believed this structure provided the most poignant, emotional, and significant way to narrate her story.”
