Matthew Macfadyen has confessed that he didn’t take great pleasure in portraying Mr. Darcy in the 2005 movie “Pride and Prejudice.” Here’s the reason behind it.

In an interview with CBS Mornings, the actor famous for portraying Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice shared, “I didn’t truly relish it, I feel apologetic for saying that.” Macfadyen confessed, there were instances when he had fun, but wished he had enjoyed the experience more. Macfadyen admitted, “I had some doubts about fitting the role, feeling I wasn’t quite dashing enough.” Yet, against all odds, the movie thrived with four Oscar nods. He concluded, “It turned out alright in the end.”

Macfadyen continues to be pleased when individuals mistake him for Mr. Darcy. He finds it entertaining that this recognition still occurs two decades later, with people frequently inquiring if he is indeed the character. In an interview with CBS, the actor shared, “The most gratifying occurrence for me now is when someone asks, ‘Were you Mr. Darcy?'” he commented. “It’s been twenty years. So I think, ‘I must not be aging that rapidly.'”

Joe Wright’s film adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, titled “Pride and Prejudice,” showcases the blossoming connection between Elizabeth Bennet, brilliantly brought to life by Keira Knightley, and Mr. Darcy, a prosperous aristocrat. In an earlier portrayal, Colin Firth assumed the role of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 TV miniseries.

Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin recently announced their enthusiasm for joining the cast of the upcoming Marvel film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26. Corrin portrays Cassandra Nova, while Macfadyen marks his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mr. Paradox.

During an interview with Extra, Macfadyen shared that he found himself having a crush on Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman while filming, despite not harboring such feelings prior. Corrin expressed that witnessing Reynolds and Jackman in their superhero outfits was an awe-inspiring experience.

Macfadyen shared with Extra that playing comic scenes in the film proved to be quite difficult for him, requiring great effort to maintain a serious expression. He acknowledged Reynolds’ hilarity and the delightful work environment as contributing factors. Regarding his character, Mr. Paradox, he considered it a mid-level manager tasked with overseeing and trimming Multiverse timelines, expressing some dissatisfaction with his part.

Macfadyen revealed that his daughter was thrilled to encounter Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ spouse, since she’s an ardent admirer of “Gossip Girl.” He quipped that this was the initial occasion when his children took notice of his profession, according to reports.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26, 2024.
