7th Scream instalment had a grand start, boasting numerous prominent figures in Hollywood’s film industry as part of its production team. Unfortunately, it faced significant setbacks, starting with the departure of director Christopher Landon. This event occurred shortly after actress Melissa Barrera was dismissed from her role due to a contentious situation.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, filmmaker Christopher Landon shared some significant disclosures about the project and his decision to step down. He revealed receiving threatening messages such as, “I will locate your children and kill them because you support child murder.” This is what the Happy Death Day director stated.
According to Christopher Landon, it was immediately following the film’s decision to let go of Melissa Barrera due to her social media comments about Israel and Palestine. Interestingly, Jenna Ortega also announced her departure from the horror movie not long after Barrera lost her role.
Discussing the challenging periods, Christopher Landon revealed that the top security officials from different production studios, along with the FBI, scrutinized the threatening messages he had been sent. “They were extremely intense and downright terrifying,” the director expressed.
According to Christopher Landon, he was initially accused of being behind Barrera’s termination due to his role as the director of Scream 7. In an interview with the media outlet, Landon attributed the situation to “a lack of people comprehending how Hollywood operates and the chain of command.
Speaking of the project, I found myself in a predicament reminiscent of a dream come true turning into a living nightmare. To elaborate, not only did the devotees approach me, but they did so with their knives bared, expressing their fervent enthusiasm.
For those unfamiliar, it’s been announced that Kevin Williamson, the original writer of the Scream series, will take over as director for Scream 7. Notably, Neve Campbell, a key figure in the franchise, is also set to reappear.
