On May 11, Morgan Wallen appeared on a show called Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley and explained why he left Saturday Night Live on March 29 unexpectedly. He made it clear during this interview that his departure wasn’t intended to offend anyone.
Wallen replied, ‘Actually, I was just preparing to leave,’ when Pressley inquired about his mood regarding the performance. He had been at that location for the entire week.” This event follows the widespread discussion and internet sensation surrounding Wallen’s walk-off, which sparked curiosity among fans and media alike.
During Mikey Madison’s episode hosting, Wallen served as the musical guest. He sang two songs, “I’m the Problem” and “Just in Case,” which are scheduled to be part of his upcoming album due for release on May 16th. However, his performance stirred some controversy when he unexpectedly departed from the stage during the end credits.
Typically, after a performance, artists and actors congregate for a group hug at its conclusion. However, Wallen briefly embraced Madison prior to exiting towards the side of the camera, bypassing other cast members’ greetings. On the same evening, he uploaded a picture of his private jet on Instagram Stories with the caption, “Get me to the land of God,” which further fueled rumors.
The SNL cast certainly took notice of that particular moment. During Weekend Update on April 5, Colin Jost made a joke about it: “Money is leaving the stock market as quickly as Morgan Wallen at ‘Goodnights.'”. Another sketch also alluded to his ‘God’s country’ caption in a skit featuring James Austin Johnson’s impersonation of Trump.
Kenan Thompson, a long-standing cast member, shared his thoughts with Entertainment Weekly, stating that the moment was particularly noticeable. In his words, “It seemed so sudden.” Given the already limited number of people on stage, he added, “It was like, wow, that was quite obvious.
Reflecting on my recent sit-down with Theo Von last weekend, I opened up about the intricate dance I’ve been doing with fame. It’s an odd sensation that, despite spending so much time in its limelight, continues to feel unfamiliar and at times, less than pleasant.
He mentioned that frequent public outings tended to put him on high alert, regardless of whether anyone interacted with him. However, he found solace in hunting, one of the few pastimes where he could truly unwind. This was because it provided an opportunity to spend time away from the hustle and bustle with friends in remote locations.
