Certain gossip publications suggested that her missing the ceremony was due to her rocky relationship with Trump, fueling speculation about her divorce from ex-President Barack Obama and their reported marital issues. Contrastingly, she marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by using social media to promote community service instead.
On that particular day, Michelle posted a photo on Instagram of the late activist, stating in her caption, “The memory of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s commitment to service continues to motivate me.
She expressed, “On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I invite you to unite with me and @WhenWeAllVote in commemorating Dr. King’s life and his enduring legacy. Engage actively in your community by offering guidance to students at your neighborhood school or lending a hand for a cause close to your heart. Each action contributes significantly towards creating a positive impact.
The speculation about Michelle Obama and Jimmy Carter’s marriage persisted following her absence at Carter’s funeral in December 2024, but it was clarified later that she had a scheduling issue instead. She was actually enjoying her holiday in Hawaii at the time.
