As an ardent fan of the Presley legacy, I find myself utterly captivated by Riley Keough’s memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown. The raw, unfiltered account of Lisa Marie Presley‘s life and her profound connection with her late family members is nothing short of extraordinary.
Riley Keough has revealed intimate details about her late mother Lisa Marie Presley’s life and secrets, including the fact that she preserved her son Benjamin Keough’s remains at home on dry ice for two months, in her recently published memoir titled “From Here to the Great Unknown.” In this book, Elvis Presley’s widow admitted that their son, affectionately known as Ben Ben, took his own life at the age of 27 in 2020. After his death, she held onto his body for close to two months.
To support her mother’s decision, Keough wrote that Presley needed those two months to completely say goodbye to her son and Keough’s brother. In one of the excerpts, the late singer stated, “There is no law in the state of California that you have to bury someone immediately.” Meanwhile, the Under the Bridge actress revealed that her mom had followed the same ritual with Elvis Presley when he died.
In her book, Lisa Marie Presley shared an experience where having her deceased father at home proved comforting as it allowed her to visit him and converse with him. She later disclosed that she kept her son’s remains in a room maintained at 55 degrees while pondering over the suitable burial location.
In the end, the musician was faced with a tough decision: should he go to Hawaii or Graceland? Later in her memoir, she explained, “That’s why it took so much time.” Lisa Marie also commented, “I had grown accustomed to him, taking care of him and keeping him there. I believe that anyone else would have been terrified if their son were in such a state. But not me.
Additionally, Keough shared that she and her mom made a special tribute by getting tattoos in memory of their deceased brother. Benjamin sported his sister’s tattoo on his neck, while his mom’s was on his arm.
Presley summoned the tattoo artist from home and led them into the room containing her son’s remains, so they could achieve the necessary precision. The actress later described the incident as, “My life has been incredibly strange, but this instance ranks among the top five.
After getting their tattoos, Riley expressed a sense that her brother’s presence was no longer desired in the house. Eventually, the family chose to lay him to rest at Graceland.
