For close to six decades, the renowned country musician Dolly Parton was married to her spouse, Carl Dean, yet they chose not to have any children. This iconic figure in the music industry has been candid about this choice, expressing that it provided her with the freedom to concentrate on her professional endeavors.
2020 saw Dolly Parton express during her interview with Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Conversation that her lack of children and her husband’s independence played a significant role in her freedom, which she believes contributed greatly to her overall success as she had the ability to focus fully on her career.
At the age of 79, Parton has constructed a notable career, marked by popular tunes such as “Jolene” and “9 to 5.” According to People, she attributes her professional success to the fact that she never had children.
In an interview with Today back in 2017, she expressed, “Everything happens according to God’s plan. I believe that perhaps it was His will for me not to have children, allowing all these children to become mine instead.
18-year-old Parton encountered Dean soon after moving to Nashville. Their paths crossed outside a laundromat, and two years later, in 1966, they tied the knot. As Parton ascended to country music stardom, Dean preferred to avoid the limelight.
Regardless of their celebrity status, Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, led an uncomplicated life. In a 2015 interview with Parade, Dolly herself revealed that they found joy in leisurely road trips through Tennessee and Kentucky, frequently pausing at small roadside eateries during their journeys.
At times, they’d opt for a Days Inn for the night, prioritizing convenience over opulence. What truly mattered to them was having a tidy bed and a functional restroom.
Dolly Parton and her husband Carl Dean chose not to have children, but Dolly has dedicated much of her life to assisting children instead. For example, she established the Imagination Library, an initiative that has been providing free books to young readers for three decades now. Dolly herself believes that not having kids enabled her to channel her energy into making a difference in the lives of countless other children.
Previously, she expressed the idea that she viewed it as an integral aspect of a larger scheme, believing that her role was not limited to caring for her own kids but encompassing all children instead. She stated that if she hadn’t had the liberty to do so, she wouldn’t have achieved all that she has now.
On March 3rd, it was announced that Dean had sadly passed away at the age of 82. Parton expressed her feelings in a statement, saying, “Carl and I spent many joyful years together. There are no words enough to express the love we shared for over six decades. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
