Why Did Director Jon M. Chu Not Attend Wicked Premiere? Find Out

As an ardent fan of Jon M. Chu, I find his life story to be nothing short of inspiring. The man juggles family and work with such grace and dedication that it leaves me in awe. His recent addition to his brood, a beautiful daughter born on the very day of the Wicked premiere, is a testament to his multitasking prowess.

As a devoted follower, I’d like to share that Jon M. Chu, the director behind Crazy Rich Asians, regrettably couldn’t make it to the Wicked premiere because an unexpected event occurred – the birth of his fifth child, a daughter, on the same day during the Los Angeles event in November. He took to social media to express that on the day of the premiere, he had to alter his plans to welcome his newest bundle of joy instead.

Although he wasn’t able to attend the premiere, he couldn’t conceal his delight as both his child and the movie he had contributed to were born on the same day. He expressed his heartfelt greetings and encouragement to the artists and production team working on Wicked, despite not being present at the release.

Today, Chu shared an Instagram story expressing, “Today is a long-anticipated day for me. Two projects (a film and a little girl) are being released simultaneously, and I can’t help but feel immense joy – unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the Wicked Premiere tonight with everyone.

The Now You See Me 2 director injected some humor into the situation by sharing a picture of his still-packaged tuxedo playfully asking whether it is appropriate to wear it to the hospital during delivery. He also joked, “No we will not be naming her Galphaba” as a nod to the movie.

At present, the family includes four more kids: Willow, a 7-year-old, Ruby, aged three, five-year-old Jonathan Heights, and their youngest, Iggy, who is just 20 months old.

Back in October, I shared with Extra that my wife’s due date was drawing near – marking the third time I’d become a father while immersed in the creative process of Wicked.

Worldwide cinemas will screen “Wicked” on November 22, 2024. The second installment, titled “Wicked Part Two,” is expected to premiere a year later on November 21, 2025. In this magical adventure, Cynthia Erivo portrays the Wicked Witch of the West, while Ariana Grande takes on the role of Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Additionally, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, and Jeff Goldblum join the cast in this film.
