As a long-time fan of the X-Men franchise and someone who grew up watching Hugh Jackman’s iconic portrayal of Wolverine, I can’t help but feel elated and excited about the recent team-up between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” This movie wasn’t just a fun, hilarious celebration of an entire era of superhero movies, it was a dream come true for me.
In simpler terms, the appearance of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the MCU brought up some intriguing queries. How does this collaboration tie into Fox’s X-Men films? What insights did the movie provide regarding the TVA, the Void, and the Sacred Timeline? And where, when, and how did this crossover unfold in the multiverse? However, Deadpool & Wolverine offered a straightforward response to these questions – it doesn’t make a difference, as understanding timelines and continuity wasn’t the film’s main objective. Instead, the movie focused on providing an enjoyable, humorous farewell to an era of superhero tales.
If you delve into the intricate details of Deadpool and Wolverine’s backstory, you’ll find that much of it is confusing. For instance, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool resides in the same universe as the Wolverine portrayed in Logan, which is labeled Earth-10005. This Wolverine served as a stabilizing force, and his demise initiated the collapse of this universe. However, Logan met his end in the year 2029, five years after Deadpool & Wolverine’s timeline. Therefore, if Deadpool could employ a TVA Time Pad to journey into the future and unearth Logan’s remains, it begs the question: why didn’t he go back to a time when Logan was still alive instead?
As a long-time fan of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the X-Men film series, I’ve spent countless hours dissecting every detail, trying to piece together the intricate web of timelines and continuity. But after watching “Deadpool & Wolverine” for the third time, I came to a realization. It doesn’t matter.
In simpler terms, Director Shawn Levy’s film explored the concept of the multiverse in its production, yet it didn’t delve into the intricacies of how this theory functions. The movie wasn’t particularly invested in explaining why Deadpool and Wolverine appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or if they would continue to be a part of it. Essentially, this film could have marked the last outing for Reynolds and Jackman as their respective characters.
The Fox X-Men and Marvel cinematic universes have parted ways with the arrival of Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU, effectively closing that chapter. While some actors from the previous series continue to appear as new versions of their characters, any queries regarding the Fox timeline’s connection to the MCU are irrelevant. The only explanation required for Deadpool joining the MCU is Disney’s acquisition of his film rights – a fitting solution for a self-aware movie like Deadpool.
Perhaps you’re disappointed that the film disregarded established canon and logic in favor of entertainment. However, the carefree attitude of Deadpool and Wolverine allowed for a laugh-out-loud, emotionally resonant tale that paid homage to a significant period in superhero movie history. The unexpected appearances of various cameos succeeded because they weren’t intended to introduce those characters or actors into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but rather added fun elements to an already enjoyable experience. Deadpool & Wolverine aimed to provide an engaging, feel-good adventure instead of a complex puzzle to solve.
Understanding the intricacies of canon, timelines, and minor details in complex movie universes like the MCU can feel more like a chore than an enjoyable experience. It can be tiring and frustrating, even for those behind the scenes. The directors and writers of “Avengers: Endgame” themselves had disagreements over how time travel functioned! In comparison, “Deadpool & Wolverine” was like a refreshing break during the summer months. It was as if the movie declared, “No more homework! Have fun during your free time and we’ll reconvene later!”
The movie’s disregard for minor details made “Deadpool & Wolverine” more enjoyable for us. For instance, we didn’t have to ponder over the illogical aspect of Wade Wilson utilizing Logan’s skeleton or question why Happy Hogan attended an absurd job interview. Instead, we could just savor these scenes for their simple fun without being bogged down by logic or potential implications for the MCU. We can concern ourselves with those matters if they become relevant in the future.
In simpler terms, the production of Deadpool & Wolverine disregarded cinematic universe rules and continuity for casting choices like Channing Tatum as Gambit, Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, and Jennifer Garner reprising their superhero roles, and a team-up of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The movie didn’t worry about whether it made perfect sense or connected movies; it just happened because it could, resulting in an enjoyable experience for viewers.
