This morning, AT&T (T) unveiled its most recent quarterly earnings report. Although these figures didn’t trigger a bullish frenzy in the stock market, they were still satisfying for investors. As a result, the overall market caused AT&T’s share price to rise by over 1%, just slightly surpassing the 0.8% growth of the S&P 500 index on that particular trading day.
Growth in operational metrics, growth in fundamentals
In the second quarter of this year, AT&T reported a total revenue of $30.8 billion, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The growth in GAAP net income was more significant, with the telecom giant earning $4.5 billion in net income compared to $3.5 billion during the same quarter last year. Additionally, their non-GAAP per-share net income increased from $0.51 per share in Q2 of 2024 to $0.54 per share this year.
A significant portion of these results can be attributed to improvements in crucial operational statistics. Specifically, AT&T added 401,000 new postpaid phone subscribers and recorded 243,000 new high-speed fiber service connections.
Regarding the financial performance, the main numbers surpassed the predictions made by the analysts. In fact, analysts who follow this stock had projected approximately $30.5 revenue and an adjusted net income of $0.53 per share. However, the actual figures turned out to be higher than these projections.
In July, the quarter came to a close, also signifying the finish line for AT&T’s protracted deal with broadcaster DirecTV, which had been somewhat cumbersome since its acquisition in 2015. Completely, they sold off their remaining shares of this business at the beginning of July.
Selected guidance
In AT&T’s report on their earnings for the year, they also shared their projected outlook for the entire year 2025. They didn’t specify a revenue figure, but they predicted that their adjusted earnings per share would range between $1.97 and $2.07. On average, analysts are anticipating an adjusted earnings per share of $2.07.
