From the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts, or as some call it, The New Avengers, we gathered that Sam Wilson seems discontent with his friend Bucky, as he’s assembling his own team of Avengers. It appears he firmly believes his team is the genuine Avengers, and given his history being a member of the classic Avengers under Steve Rogers, his claim holds merit since no one on Bucky’s current team has ever been part of the original. This situation might lead to a conflict reminiscent of Civil War, potentially during Avengers: Doomsday, though it could be just a small aspect of it. The question remains, who would emerge victorious in such a confrontation? To answer that, we’d first need to identify the members of Sam’s supposed Avengers team. Or more accurately, determine who they might be.
According to the announced cast of “Avengers: Doomsday”, it seems likely that Captain America’s team will consist of Falcon (Danny Ramirez), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and possibly Shang-Chi (Simu Lu). While we anticipate more characters to join, for now, it appears that this group represents the core members of Sam’s Avengers. We have excluded Shuri from being associated with Black Panther, as Kevin Feige has hinted at the Wakandans forming their own team.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve got to say, it seems like the New Avengers are actually the Thunderbolts! That puts Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Lewis Pullman as Bob/the Sentry on the Thunderbolts’ roster. It’s quite intriguing because both teams appear to have roughly the same number of heroes, so the battle promises to be balanced… at least in terms of numbers, anyway!
The majority of the New Avengers are often categorized as characters who primarily fight using physical force and weaponry. However, the wild card among them is Sentry. Robert Reynolds possesses such immense power that he must restrain himself from utilizing it, to avoid being consumed by the Void. Yet, in a hypothetical confrontation with Sam’s Avengers, Sentry may need to tap into his powers again. This seems necessary because Sam’s team includes a literal god, Thor. Essentially, the question arises: who is more powerful, Robert or the mighty Thor?
When it comes to movie-loving perspective, I’d say there’s a strong possibility that Bob, or Sentry, is more destructive than Thor. Don’t get me wrong, Thor’s got the super strength, invincibility, and can control thunderstorms, which is pretty impressive. Add his enchanted hammer Mjolnir to the mix, and he’s a force to be reckoned with.
However, when Sentry taps into his full potential, he seems capable of causing far greater damage than Thor. In a hypothetical showdown between the two, I’d give Sentry the upper hand based on past comic book events.
The downside is that Sentry might accidentally level an entire planet while dealing with Sam’s Avengers. Not exactly something we’d want to see happening!
Absolutely, both squads could potentially bring in new members, altering the dynamics significantly. For instance, if Sam’s Avengers recruit Captain Marvel or Bruce Banner, it would shift the game. Similarly, Bucky’s team might bolster their ranks with heavyweights like She-Hulk or Ms. Marvel. As a retired military officer, James Rhodes could potentially join the New Avengers, either as War Machine or the latest Iron Man. All these changes could tip the scales between the teams. However, currently, due to the Sentry’s godlike abilities, many are betting on the New Avengers.
