Who Won Pedro Pascal Lookalike Contest and What Was the Prize? Learn About Brooklyn Dad Being Dragged to Competition

On Father’s Day, a father from Brooklyn entered a competition that resembled Pedro Pascal, and he ended up winning $50 and a full year’s supply of burritos.

George Gountas from Greenpoint wasn’t planning to win when his family persuaded him to join the lookalike contest on June 15th. However, unexpectedly, he claimed the first place at Son Del North, a Mexican restaurant in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, as reported by the New York Post.

At the fan celebration for Pedro Pascal, a Chilean-American actor famous for his performances in shows like The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, and Game of Thrones, Gountas joined around 30 other participants. In The Mandalorian, Pascal portrayed bounty hunter Din Djarin, while he took on the role of Joel Miller in The Last of Us, both of which have been highly acclaimed lately.

Jenny Gania, Gountas’ wife, suggested entering the contest because she had often heard people remark on the resemblance between Gountas and a character from Game of Thrones. “It all began when Game of Thrones was first released,” Gania explained. “Later, even some children started pointing it out too. When we learned about this [contest], I thought, ‘With Father’s Day approaching, you should go. It will be a special treat for you.’

Gountas, who isn’t active on social media platforms, was taken aback by the sudden attention. “It’s amusing,” Gania remarked, “since he doesn’t use any social media whatsoever. Yet, it seems he will now be omnipresent.

Here’s why contest happened in the first place

The lookalike contest was initiated following a popular comment made by Pedro Pascal in 2023, expressing his dissatisfaction with the lack of good Mexican food in New York City. Annisha Garcia, chef and co-owner of Son Del North, found this statement intriguing and it inspired her to come up with the idea for the contest. “I’m sorry, but there’s no Mexican, good Mexican food in New York?” she thought. To which she replied, “There is, and we are here.

As an overjoyed fan, I can’t help but share the heartwarming statement from the restaurant co-owner Wim Shih. His goal, as he put it, was to craft a vibrant, spirit-lifting experience for our community in these trying times. With so much heaviness weighing upon us, Wim wanted to bring a glimmer of joy and positivity into our lives – a ray of sunshine amidst the gloom.

The upcoming Pedro Pascal doppelganger competition follows a similar celebrity-focused event that took place in New York City – the Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest, which occurred last October at Washington Square Park, with Chalamet himself attending.

(Note: “doppelganger” refers to a person who closely resembles another individual.)
