Who Will Receive Gene Hackman’s USD 80 Million Fortune Following His and Wife Betsy’s Death? Here’s What We Know

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of death.

Almost two weeks after the unfortunate deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, details about Gene’s will have been disclosed. On Thursday, March 13, it was reported by the Daily Mail that Hackman had an astounding net worth of $80 million upon his death. In the legal papers, Arakawa was named as the successor trustee.

The actor known for portraying Superman was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and hadn’t revised his will since June 2005. Following Arakawa’s demise, which occurred a week before him, his three children stood to inherit his fortune as they were the next in line of succession.

Hackman was left behind by his children: Christopher (age 65), Leslie (age 58), and Elizabeth (age 62). These children were born from his former marriage with Faye Maltese. It remains undisclosed whether any of the children are named as heirs, but it is expected that Hackman’s wealth will be inherited by one or more of them.

It seems that a potential legal dispute lies ahead between Christopher, who’s enlisted a prominent lawyer, and his siblings. On the other hand, Arakawa neglected to appoint any beneficiaries, choosing instead to distribute her assets into a trust.

After settling her outstanding medical bills, the remaining funds will be donated to multiple charities. It was reported by TMZ that a condition in her will specified her wealth would go to her spouse if she lived past him by over three months.

Because Arakawa passed away just a week after the other person, the situation described in that clause doesn’t pertain to him, as he didn’t have any biological children of his own.

Last month, the actor and his pianist wife were found deceased in their New Jersey home.

The autopsy findings showed that the celebrated two-time Oscar winner succumbed to heart ailments, compounded by Alzheimer’s disease. His pacemaker data indicates he passed away on February 18, at the age of 95, approximately a week prior to his body being found.

Arakawa, who took care of him extensively, is said to have passed away at 65 from Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, just a week before her husband’s death on February 11. Her body was discovered on the bathroom floor in a state of mummification. One of their dogs unfortunately died, while the remaining two were found safe and alive.
