The wrestling community is deeply saddened by the passing of Terry Brunk, famously known as Sabu, who died at the age of 60. This legendary figure, who made a mark in ECW and WWE, was celebrated for his thrilling, intense performances inside the ring. According to PWInsider, he passed away on May 11th.
Prior to current details, it’s known that Brunk had experienced health problems in the past. Back in 2013, he ended up in the hospital during the Squared Circle Expo due to a severe medical emergency. The specifics of the event were not disclosed to the public afterward.
Beginning in 1985, Sabu first entered the wrestling scene, mentored by his uncle, legendary wrestler Ed “The Sheik” Farhat. His career took off in ECW starting from 1993, where he significantly contributed to shaping the extreme wrestling style that has been passed down through generations. Known for his daring high dives, violent weapon-filled matches, and unyielding bravery, Sabu made a name for himself as an icon in the world of hardcore wrestling.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) paid tribute to Sabu on X, displaying the words “In Memory of Sabu 1964-2025” alongside it. The caption beneath read: “The wrestling community is saddened by the loss of Sabu. Known for his daring barbed wire matches and unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu dedicated himself to professional wrestling. Our sympathies are extended to his family, friends, and followers.
Brunk passed away recently, following his fight in Las Vegas during WrestleMania 41’s weekend. This was marketed as his final match before retirement, where he defeated Joey Janela, concluding a near-four-decade long career.
Recently, his latest public event took place just a few days back at the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance reunion convention in Philadelphia, which is also famously known as the legendary ECW Arena.
Sabu’s groundbreaking approach to hardcore wrestling still resonates with numerous artists he inspired, as his legacy endures. However, the circumstances surrounding Brunk’s demise remain undisclosed at this time.
