Legendary actor Robert Logan has tragically passed away at the age of 82, as confirmed by PEOPLE’s reports. Previously playing Edd “Kookie” Byrnes’ role as a valet parking attendant on ABC’s iconic detective series 77 Sunset Strip, Logan also starred as the father in several nature-themed adventure movies.

Logan’s son, Anthony, shared with PEOPLE that his father, Logan, unfortunately passed away on May 6, in Estero, Florida, due to natural causes. However, his family chose to announce his passing on August 7, a Wednesday. In a statement to PEOPLE, the family described him as an embodiment of selfless love, representing the very essence of Platonic ideals of love within a family or marriage.

Born on May 29, 1941, in the bustling city of Brooklyn, Robert Francis Logan entered the world. His mother, Catherine, was a devoted homemaker, and his father, Frank, held a position at a bank. Following their family’s move to Los Angeles, young Robert attended Junipero Serra High School.

Initially offered a baseball scholarship at the University of Arizona, Logan eventually opted for Los Angeles City College instead, thanks to a shift in coaching staff. Later, he was noticed by a talent scout and cast as J.R. Hale, a street-smart character with a unique slang, on the ABC police series 77 Sunset Strip. He portrayed this role from 1961 to 1963 for two seasons.

After the termination of 77 Sunset Strip, Logan subsequently featured in episodes of Dr. Kildare and Mr. Novak. Later, he collaborated with Byrnes once more for the lighthearted musical production titled Beach Ball, which was released in 1965.

In the 1979-1980 NBC television show “A Man Called Sloane,” the character played by the main actor was initially a secret agent in the pilot episode titled “Death Ray 2000.” But when the series was officially greenlit, Robert Conrad replaced him.

Beyond mentioning it, Logan’s resume showcases his writing contributions for films like “Kelly” (1981) and “A Night in Heaven” (1986), along with episodes from “Riptide” and “1st & Ten.” In the latter part of the 1980s, he decided to take a break from acting to concentrate on documentary production. Incidentally, it was during the filming of “A Night in Heaven” (1986) that the actor met his soon-to-be spouse, Alina.

Logan’s immediate family – his beloved wife Alina, his son Anthony, his daughter Courtney, and his grandchildren Elsa, Ingrid, and Alma – are left behind, as well as his siblings Logan, Theresa, Janet, and Timothy.
