As an ardent fan of animated series and movies, I was deeply saddened by the demise of Rachael Lillis, the talented voice actress who brought our beloved characters to life. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, this premed student-turned-actress had a remarkable journey, from studying acting in Boston and New York City to gracing our screens with her exceptional talent.
Today, it’s with regret that we report the passing of voice actress Rachel Lillis, famed for bringing animated characters to life, at the young age of 46. Unfortunately, she lost her battle with breast cancer on August 10th. Here are some important details about her life and career.
Born on July 8, 1969, in Niagara Falls, New York, Lillis initially pursued a premedical course at Smith College. However, she shifted her focus towards acting and spent time in Boston and New York City honing her skills. Her versatile acting career spanned across various platforms, from theater performances to independent films and animated shows. According to Wikipedia, Lillis relocated to Los Angeles in 2013.
In my past, I honed my craft as an opera singer, but come the ’90s, I dared to explore the realm of voice acting. This journey led me to a plethora of films, video games, and television shows. While many recognize my work as the English dub for Misty in Pokémon, I’ve also lent my voice to various animated characters such as Jigglypuff, Vulpix, Goldeen, and Venonat.
Apart from this, she’s lent her voice to characters in shows such as Winx Club, Hunter X Hunter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and numerous others. In addition, it’s worth mentioning that she starred in a total of 423 episodes of the Pokémon animated series.
On her social media platforms, Veronica Taylor, who lent her voice to Ash Ketchum in the English version of the 90s Japanese animated series, shared news about Lillis’s death and paid tribute with an emotional message.
Following her announcement of passing, Taylor wrote that Lillis was a “remarkable artist,” whose voice radiated brilliance whether she spoke or sang. She noted that Lillis’s memory will live on, not only for the numerous animated characters she brought to life, but also for her unforgettable performances as Jessie and Misty in Pokémon, which are cherished by countless fans.
Taylor further expressed that the actress expressed her gratitude for the support and affection she received during her cancer battle, acknowledging it had a profoundly positive impact on her. She also mentioned, “Her family would like to express their thanks as they take this time for quiet reflection. A memorial service is being arranged for a later date.” Have a look at the post and caption below.
As reported, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated with the purpose of covering the medical costs for the deceased actress. The campaign successfully accumulated approximately $98,000. Tragically, it was on this same platform that her sister, Laurie Orr, announced her passing.
“Laurie stated that the money will be allocated towards covering any leftover medical expenses, arranging a memorial service, and funding cancer research, as reported by the publication.”
