89-year-old Patty Maloney, who was admired for her performances in many TV series and movies, has sadly passed away, according to her representative.
As I share this news with you all, I’m compelled to speak about my sister, Maloney. My brother, David Myrabo, has shared that she is currently under hospice care in Winter Park, Florida, having experienced multiple strokes. This update comes from him directly to The Hollywood Reporter. Our hearts are heavy as we pray for her well-being and recovery during this difficult time.
He mentioned that for a small individual living amidst a vast universe, she accomplished all her dreams.
For those unfamiliar, Patty Maloney played Chewbacca’s son, Lumpy, in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. Notably, this role came five years after she made her first appearances on lively shows like Far Out Space Nuts and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.
On TV, you might recognize Maloney from various shows like Charlie’s Angels, Rhoda, The Love Boat, and the cherished Little House on the Prairie where he made guest appearances.
Originating from and nurtured in New York City, Patty Maloney commenced her performance journey within traveling fairs and the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
In 1961, she wed Joseph Vitek. Following his demise, she was consumed by sorrow. To help her cope, her friends urged her to resume her acting career, eventually bringing her back into the limelight with performances such as her role in Far Out Space Nuts.
Seven years after Joseph Vitek’s passing from cancer, Patty Maloney made her return to performing.
In 1974, she made her screen debut alongside Billy Barty in the film “Punch and Jody,” as per IMDb’s records.
Though my beloved character remained hidden behind the scenes during the notorious Star Wars Holiday Special, my skills were eagerly pursued by many.
During a 2008 interview, Patty Maloney fondly remembered her part in the Star Wars Holiday Special, particularly her costume. She described it as being made entirely of human hair, which made it incredibly warm, even to the point of being quite toasty. In her own words, “It was a very warm suit,” as she shared with those who interviewed Under the Rainbow actress, Patty Maloney.
Among her many impressive roles are appearances in “Ernest Saves Christmas” from 1988, as well as “The Addams Family” in 1991, with even more to her repertoire.
